Currently use Portrait Settings, Weddings, Special Events & Sporting events at dusk. The SB800 Flash attached directly to the camera doesnt give enough distance between the flash and the camera, I get too many shadows. I use the Stroboframe Quick Flip 350. I prefer to rotate my flash rather than the entire camera using the SC29 Sync Cord w/AF illinator works best with my SB800 flash.

This cord is necessary if you want to use your digital camera compatible flash off the camera. Nikon has improved its design, since I lost the first one that I owned.

It works as described. Easy to use. Focus assist illuminator is nice. It is a bit more fragile than I expected given the price and considering there's a flash mounted to it adding torque as you swing your camera on a bracket. The plastic casing is crackable if you're a bit rough. Else, it's a fine product.

I tried using my D200 camera with the SB800 flash on a bracket using the built in speedlight as a commander, but the recycle time was too slow. The sb29 helps speed that recycle time up quite a bit.

This - and a decent bracket like a Stroboframe - is a must. This accessory WILL mount on a Stroboframe by simply removing the Stroboframe hotshoe mount (screw is underside) and using the same screw to mount the SC-29 hotshoe.
The SC-29 works well with both my SB-600 and SB-800. The extra elevation provided by the SB-29 and frame totally eliminates red-eye without having to bounce the flash, thereby allowing me to extend the flash distance.

Great Product. The problem I had with it is trying to attach it to a bracket. It wouldn;'t mount on my flat bracket shoe. I was able to get it to mount to my stroboframe digital folding frame but only sideways and with the thumb screw. I am still searching for a screw to shoe converter. Coolest use: I was able to mount it to a joby small gorilla grip tripod for some interesting placement of the flash up to 5 feet away.
Buy this one over the sc28. If you find yourself in low light situations, the AF assist comes in handy.

You can use the old SC-17 or newer SC-28 to save money, but this has an AF assist light built into the hotshoe foot, which is nice. I have two, on stroboframe flip brackets, for wedding photography. Totally satisfactory.

I would probably use this feature more if I had more ways to hold the flash off the camera. It lends itself more to home-base work than in the field.
Works excellent. I would buy again.
