Absolutely critical to have the Tungsten and Fluorescent filters for indoor flash photography; the other filters are mostly just an interesting "bonus" bundle.

I used mainly the red and blue filters so far on the SB-600. The blue adds a lot to the photos for a blue gradient type effect that turned out very nice! The red was not so overpowering but added a nice tone to the photos.

If you need flash gels for a Nikon SB-600, I don't know why you'd use anything else. Easy to attach and they come in a nice folder allowing quick access.

This is a neat little set because it comes with so many colors and shades. I used it to balance the blue cast from a tent we were meeting under for a family get-together. It would also work well for artistic shots to make the grass greener or set the mood. I wasn't pleased to learn that it can melt and be consumed... this hasn't happened to me yet... but I was surprised that these aren't just an overlay that can be used to exhaustion.

Ordered these to modify the White Balance on my Nikon SB-800 flash. They work pretty well and do alter the WB as they are advertised. Do not especially like the light weight material they are made of. Would like to see a more substantial material used. Also not overly fond of how filters need to be folded and "attached" to Flash unit.

I use these for color effects. Turns a white wall into a good background.

These are standard gel material cut so that they can be inserted into the SB-800. They do a satisfactory job of filtering light from the flash to a single color. Because it is just folded gel, they tend to leak light from the sides. Additionally, they fade and melt under heavy flash use, so these should be considered an expendable (it says this right in the manual, which you should read).

For frequent users, purchasing sheets of gel and cutting them for one self would a better deal. This would also let you get more colors... the Yellow and Blue filter do not make green light, and doubling the florescent filter is not very affective.

That all said, the filter kit is very handy and fun, and can be used to make rather ordinary scenes look amazin gin the right hands.

When I bought my SB-800, I was somewhat surprised to find that it didn't come complete with a set of filters. Well, this accessory will fill most simple filter needs.

Buy a second set - you may lose or damage a filter or two in use.

I love these. I've tried some of the DYI solution out there (taping sample gels for theater supply stores for example). These are purpose built for balancing the light from your flash with the available light. The carrying wallet is a nice bonus. They are thin so if it's breezy you may want to put a little piece of tape on them or flip your diffuser down over them.

White balance, dude, won't correct for fluorescent and tungsten, nor will it give you funky art gels like blue and red to punch up backgrounds at whim. Considering you get 20 total gels -- including replacement gels for two shades of tungsten and fluorescent -- this is a pretty good value. Much better than trying to "home remedy" a solution with theatrical shop gel samples.

Works well to add color to a background or for special effects. Other than that... use your in-camera white balance adjustments.
