Comments about Westcott Westcott Photo Basics 7.5' Free Sliding Black Light Stand:

This is a good stand, and virtually the same as the $40 stand you can get from Alien Bees, but to correct a previous buyer's review, This is not the same stand you get from Alien Bees. The difference is the Alien Bees stand is 10', where as this one is only 7.5', hence the $11 price difference. Other than that, they look the same.

good quality... only have used it once but no complaints very happy with purchase... good solid stand. Springs are a nice option to prevent damage if you loosen and lose your grip on your speedlight/strobe... cushions the shock... good job folks!

Comments about Westcott Westcott Photo Basics 7.5' Free Sliding Black Light Stand:

For less than [$] this is a good deal. Have a Lastolite Ezybox hotshoe attached and while a bit flimsy, not anything too bad. I would advise a sand bag or something to weight it down if in windy weather but overall a great buy. This is very lightweight and easy to use, can be assembled and disassembled in a matter of seconds and works great for what it costs.

Not too Happy
By Imaging Lifestyle PhotographyVerified Reviewer from Knoxville, TN on 4/26/2009
Cons:
Plastic riser locks
Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Westcott Westcott Photo Basics 7.5' Free Sliding Black Light Stand:

I have had this product for less than two months and it's already broke. The inserts between the lock knobs, and the riser poles are made of soft plastic. After 6 shoots my stand will not hold a Pentax speedlight up.

Comments about Westcott Westcott Photo Basics 7.5' Free Sliding Black Light Stand:

As I'm just breaking back into photography after a several year sabbatical, I needed good gear at a good price. You can spend much more and get the same results as with these durable enough, lightweight stands.

Use caution when lowering the stand with equipment mounted on top as it come down in a hurry. Also, for extended spring life within the tube, don't completely collapse the stand when storing for extended periods.

I purchased this light stand to hold a reflector I own and two stands with a set of Alien Bees lights. They arrived on the same day and to my surprise this is the exact same stand as from alien bees only this one was $10 cheaper.

Comments about Westcott Westcott Photo Basics 7.5' Free Sliding Black Light Stand:

I have been using these stands for 2 years now. I use them with Nikon SB-800 speedlights and Westcott 32" Satin White umbrellas. This arrangment is very quick and easy to set up and tear down and that is very important for me in doing wedding photography. I need to be able to react quickly to the rapid pace of each wedding day. I now have 3 of the stands - one for a key light, one for a fill light and one for a back light. The best part of all is this arrangement provides a very nice quality of light in lighting formal bridal portraits and fits very easily in my Adorama 30" stand bag for easy transport between wedding venues.

Comments about Westcott Westcott Photo Basics 7.5' Free Sliding Black Light Stand:

I'm pleased with the weight and size - they fold small and are 2 of them easy to stash in my location bag along with a tripod, head, swivels, umbrellas, etc. I'm mounting speedlites on them, so I don't have a weight concern. The only concern I have, actually, is the build quality - they look fine but are a little plasticky. Obviously [$] doesn't buy solid steel, and I know I have to be careful with them. We'll see how they hold up.

Comments about Westcott Westcott Photo Basics 7.5' Free Sliding Black Light Stand:

I use this product for mounting Speedlites. It is sturdy to hold the flash and a large umbrella with. I like that is it black so that it does not reflect. I also like that it is spring loaded so that when the when is being put away it the telescoping action does not slam hard on its way down. The stand is also lightweight and easy to carry.
