I received my first digital voice recorder as a gift from my husband. It was a DS-2 i was previously using a mini-disc player and the discs were outrageously expensive...after I got the ds 2 It did not hold enough memory for me, so I bought up...a ws310m this was fantastic though i found it to be fragile in the sense "the battery holder" was not sturdy.
I then bought ws-331 m. Wow i cannot say enough positive things about this little recorder.when i load on to my computer the quality is super!
Unusual feature is built in speaker, not found on most MP3 players. Undocumented: hold down the fast fwd/rev key long enough, it automatically goes into superfast mode. Dislikes: 1. Cant erase files from PC, must do from recorder. 2. time/date stamp does not show up on downloaded files in Windows Explorer AFAIK. Must look at LCD on recorder for file info. 3. Voice control has a sensitivity adjustment, but no delay adjustment.
Haven't located any utility software package for this recorder yet.
This is truly so much better than the old tape versions of these machines. With its realtime headphone output and mic jack, a broadcaster could use this to do news stories or interviews. The only thing lacking is a home dictation tool set add on, or bundled software like dragon naturally speaking... these would be good add ons. The other thing ... I have not figured out how to add additional notes to a current recording... I end up opening a new file... this could be tough on brainstormers or those using it to grab notes to self.
