I purchased it for my Canon XTi & have been using it with wildlife & flower photography so far. Great lens and really crisp results!

Excellent upgrade from entry level lenses. This is my first EX from Sigma and it won't be my last. Crisp, sharp, clear shots the first time. Great price.

Very nice lens for dental close up photography. A ring light is not necessary.

The resolution is great. The Macro capabilities are fantastic. The lens is a f/2.8 but has the capability for f/45 on Canon EOS cameras which provides a great depth of field range. A tripod is pretty much mandatory when using the lens stopped down near f/45 however, but it doesn't impact my macro work as I always use a tripod. The depth of field at f/2.8 is pretty shallow so the ability to stop down a considerable amount is greatly appreciated. The screw on hood I dislike somwhat, I prefer the 1/4 turn type of lens hoods, but on the bright side if you want to leave the hood on you can use a 77mm lens cap directly on the hood. The hood is rather redundant anyway as the frontal glass surface is recessed fairly deeply into the lens body. It has a funky manual focus push/pull clutch that takes some getting used to, but since the focusing ring turns during autofocus operation it is handy to disengage. Auto focus operaton is rather slow overall, but considering the range of focus from infinity to 1:1 macro it is understandable. There is a limit switch that comes in handy for when you are not using the lense for macro work that restricts the focusing to the normal (non-macro) range, which can help with the auto focus time. The auto focus also tends to hunt in low light situations, but I rarely use autofocus in those situatons anyway so it is not an issue to me. Most of my macro work is done with my Canon XTi or 5D and I use a Sigma EM-140 DG ringlight flash as well, which by the way can function as the Master with my Canon 430EX flash units functioning as slaves, which makes for some very flexible lighting options. Overall this is a great macro lens and I enjoy using it very much, the price is pretty good. If you use auto focus for the majority of your work you may be a bit disappointed but for those of us that prefer manual focus I highly recommend this lens.

This lenses are very good, sharp and easy to handle for hand held pics. Very good and durable construction, dropped mine twice and still works like new!
