Comments about Sigma Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX "DG" AF Telephoto Macro Lens for Nikon AF-D Cameras:
Great lens for macro work. At 105mm, it gives more than enough standoff room. It's also great as a portrait lens. One of my favorite lenses.

Comments about Sigma Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX "DG" AF Telephoto Macro Lens for Nikon AF-D Cameras:
I like the lens, especially for the price, the macro images I have taken so far are crisp, the depth of field is good and it's easy to use. Points of disappointment: AF is slow, when it does work it has a tendency to seek back and forth at least twice before it sets, and it is noisy, much better as a manual lens. It is very tight to mount on my body (d200) maybe not so on other bodies. All in all I bought it because I needed a Macro lens that didn't cost a lot. This lens produces a very nice image, and that is the most important part.

I was debating on getting this lens, but than I just read up on it more and decided to get it. I have not been more satisfied than ever. I love this lens, a very good, steady macro lens. I noticed it's a bit slow on focusing, but other than that perfect lens for its price.

Comments about Sigma Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX "DG" AF Telephoto Macro Lens for Nikon AF-D Cameras:
Seriously awesome lens! Half the prize of the Nikon but can't compare to the Nikon because I have never used it. But I will say there is no way the Nikon is twice as good even though it is twice as much. This lens has encouraged me to purchase other Sigma lenses. I have never had a problem with the zoom slipping. The only thing is that it is as easy to attach as a standard Nikon lens and it is heavier than Nikon lens.
Shallow Depth of Field

Comments about Sigma Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX "DG" AF Telephoto Macro Lens for Nikon AF-D Cameras:
I use this lens with a Nikon D80. You couldn't ask for a better macro lens. It is sharp, sturdy, and easy to use. I must say that I was leary at first when I ordered it, as I have seen mixed reviews on Sigma lenses... but was pleasantly surprised at the quality of construction and output of this lens. I do a lot of abstract macro, and floral photography, and it produces great results. Subjects are perfectly sharp at small apertures, and the DOF with shooting wide-open couldn't be any better. The lens does produce hexagonal fragments in the background called "bokeh" when shot wide-open. This is desireable to some, but undesireable to others. I personally like the look. One downside is that it is very slow to auto-focus, especially when used extremely close-up to the subject, as it has a hard time searching for a focal point. I almost always use this lens in a controlled environment, so it has rarely been an issue for me, as I usually focus manually. Overall it is an excellent lens for the price, and very much competitive with higher-end lenses.

I'm having a lot of fun with this lens. It's easy to focus, sharp and makes a good mid-range prime telephoto.
