due to budget constraints and the need for a fast lens, i chose this one because it fit both requirements. i chose it over the tamron 17-50 f/2.8 because the focal range was flexible for my needs (a wedding). i already had a wide angle sigma lens and was pleased with it's results.
after using this lens for a full day wedding and several weeks for general use, i can recommend it to anyone needed a fast lens at a decent price. we can't all afford the canon version, so this makes for a good compromise.
the sharpness is a bit soft, but can be easily fixed up later in post processing. the lens has some weight to it and has a good feel to it.

I use this lens to shoot weddings and concerts in low light. It has performed well. I did need to have the focusing ring repaired once, but I use my gear pretty hard. If I could afford the Canon lens I would have definitely gone with it, but I would buy another Sigma product based on my experience with this lens.
awesum lens good quality
