I get lots of excellent pictures with this lens. But you have to keep an eye on the shutter speed. The miss representation is in the HSM. Pentax models are not HSM. Focusing is done with the camera motor. Still I am very happy with the lens.

I had been looking at long zooms for quite a while and was interested in other 400mm lenses. [...]iI decided to try this one. Wow, am I ever impressed!! As a ski patroller and outdoors type, I use this lens a lot for wildlife and landscapes and its performance is brilliant. I can handhold to about 410mm but find that a monopod is the way to go. I find that its weight actually steadies the lens when handheld, but it is a v. heavy monster.

Excellent lens that is bit heavy

Easily Accessible Controls, Easily Mounted, Sharp Images, Strong Construction
Cons:
Heavy

Best Uses:
Action Shots, Sports, Wildlife
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The only downside for this lens its its weight. Earlier I used to have a Tokina 80-400mm lens which is much ligher than this one. It is very hard to get a handheld photograph with this one. And when u do wildlife sometimes u have no time to mount it and get ready. Other than that, this lens is excellent.
