I bought this lens for a Sony A700 to replace my Sigma 28 -105 aspherical as a walk around lens.
It focuses quickly and does a good job at separating the subject from the background. It is very much like the sigma 70-300 DG. Its compact and has a lock to prevent "creeping"
Picture quality is good. Really good at f9. AF motor is a little noisy but I'm not a spy so. There is some barrel distortion at 20 -18mm, but I expected that with the range the lens covers.
120mm F9 iso 800 no flash

Bought 1 year ago. I have been using it on all my trips (Europe,Vegas,Caribbean),same quality as my Sigma 18-125 which I used with my Nikon D70.Very lightweight and compact.
Difficult to defocus background in portraits.
I use this lens as my primary lens. It is light and compact and yet provides a wide focal range. Coupled with my camera's built in stabilization and a tripod when necessary and I have no trouble getting sharp pictures with this lens that enlarge to 16x20. The construction feels solid yet it light enough to easily travel with.
