No, I would not recommend this to a friend
If you are in and out of a car frequently and turn this device off, you get to start over again each time, without retaining song/video position or last played selection. You must go through an extensive menu system and start over. No firmware updates since 2005 and company has been sold out to Verbatim.

I got this for traveling so that when I filled up all my memory cards I could dounload them to the FlashTrax unit and continue shooting. I also use this unit to backup all my photos from my desktop HDD. With a CompactFlash to other flash media adaptor, it will read any of the other common Flash memory cards.
I am very happy with the unit, especially as I have one of the 9Mpixel cameras.
