One improvement I would like is a quick release head to leave on the camera. Screwing the monopod to the camera is not difficult, but it would be nicer with quick release, Still, this item is well worth the money!
Great Monopod for the money.

My method for success is to hold monopod with one hand, arm straight and elbow pressed hard against body. Brace monopod against outstretched leg, to prevent sideways movement.
There are times, when a tripod can't be used successfully. EG. Confined space, rocky shore lines, steep mountain slopes and uneven ground. This is where the monopod is indispensable.
The Canon monopod is lightweight, sturdy and strong and also makes a great walking stick. Include it with your backpack, you won't even notice its there.
Highly recommended.
A sturdy, versatile and cheap monopod.

The Canon Monopod 100 is a very useful tool when I don't want to carry a tripod (i.e. nature walks, sporting events, etc.).This monopod is lightweight and sturdy with a very comfortable foam covered handle. The carrying strap is adequate and well built. The ballhead is very easy to adjust and locks securely in the desired position(s). The mounting screw is made of plastic, so care must be taken not to overtighten or strip it. It's also a very good walking stick. The bronze colored leg extensions make this attractive monopod that stands out from the usual silver or black models. No, it will not replace a tripod but if used properly, you'll discover how truly useful this accessory can be! Too bad it doesn't come with a storage bag.

Great to use in lieu of a tripond when a tripod would be to big. A monopod is great to stablize your shot when using a non VR lens
The canon monopod is well constructed and easy to quick and easy to use.
The ball head allows you to angle your camera how ever you need to in order to get the shot.

Used correctly, a Mono pod is a great field stabilization tool . Many people don't know how to use one. Here's the scoop. The mono pod goes out in front of you at an angle of approximately 30 degrees, your camera rests against your face, for viewing and shooting, and your legs make a completed tripod stance. That's it. now enjoy your Monopod.A ball head is a must for adjustability.

Cons:

Best Uses:
Long Exposures

Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend
It is not as good as a tripod and is difficult to hold steady to take a picture. It works better if you use the delayed shot. As a side note, it is a great walking stick. If you want a monopod and are aware of the shortcomings, this is a well made product.
