I tried to save a buck with a couple of adapters/plates that cost about half of this product's very reasonabe price. The action was horribly unsmooth and the attachment between the plate and the adapter was not tight. This one is made of much better materials, its action and fit are crisp, precise and secure. A great value, in my opinion.

My only disappointment was that exactly the same "look-alike plates" coming with and fitting various web-vendor's tripods or monopods DO NOT FIT. I had hoped to be able to use the plates that fit and came with my graphite monopod and tripods on this adapter mounted to my Novoflex chest-pod but no such luck. Oh well!

This works just like it says easily attaches to 1/4 or 3/8 stud I especially like the autolocking feature. If it is enabled once you use the quick realease to secure your camera it can't accidently be unlatched

[...] I have a large number of 3157N plates (the standard RC2 plate), and they ALL work fine with this adapter, which is the whole point! This adapter is a fine way to add the RC2 quick-release system to any 3/8 or 1/4 screw. Very nice.

Although there are many fancier quick-release systems, the RC2 is strong, small, secure, low-profile, and reliable. And inexpensive. Several Bogen/Manfrotto tripod heads use the 3157N plate which is part of the RC2 system. I also use it on top of their larger plate so that I can quickly move my workhorse camera from one support to another. The security latch is a very important feature, as it prevents accidental release of the camera.

mount is good. base plate won't accept any of my OTHER 3157 QR Mounts, making this a useless quick swap mount. the side notches are a nuisance - and I don't really want to have to grind my other 4 mounts to fit this unit. Overall, for multiple cameras this is poor. single purpose - one camera, then really nice QR mount for an older tripod
