I traded in my Really Right Stuff head and was looking for an alternative because of the size of the RRS head. I found this head sounded quite good in it's description, it looked stable and good build quality. But I guess I'm wrong about it. It failed on the first photo shoot. The mounting mechanism simply does not lock tightly thus the camera is jumping on top of this tripod... Also the 90degree drop slot is horribly placed, so that when you try to use your camera to shoot vertical shots, you'll end up with one adjusting knob in front of the camera, and one on the rear of the camera(instead of the knobs on the 2 sides), making adjustments very awkward. I'm returning this for something else.

I got the non-quick release one, but I also have used their head with various quick release plates, they are not the best QR you can get, I'd suggest Acra Swiss type compatiable plates for your camera.
