No, I would not recommend this to a friend
I was thoroughly convinced that this product is not very good to use...It would not hold my Nikon Digital SLR camera in the verticle position..[...].I think I was ripped off because it said on the product description that this particular item holds up to 8 pounds

No Independent Panning Lock

I ordered this head because of the advertised "Independent Panning Lock," however there is only one lock which controls both movements of the camera platform AND base.
Also, the "Loading Capacity" is rated 5.5 lbs, not 8.8 lbs, although this is marked with a sticker so maybe they changed this recently.
