Motorized Pan Head
By JRVerified Purchaser from Clayton, NC on 2/6/2008
Pros:
Attaches Firmly, Good Stability, Large Range of Motion
Cons:
Slight motor noise
Best Uses:
Nice for panning video
Describe Yourself:
Hobbyist/Enthusiast
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I used the Pan head for smooth panning video. It is great for this type of usage. If running at its max speed there is some motor noise that may be picked up by a sensitivity camera microphone. With normal audio volume this should not be a problem. I have owned other types and this is, so far, the best.

Cons:
Heavy
Best Uses:

Well, it's great for those almost 360 video sweeps which allow you to put the tripod right into a corner, thus getting as much panning as possible. Smooth movement and just the right speed for the videoing I found. You will need the 50ft extension for this and the price is not inhibitive. Apart from the weight it's a great bit of kit.

I have had it for a few years and love it. I have had to fix the cable, but only because I work it so hard. So far it has met my expectations.

THIS PRODUCT IS FOR SLOW & SMOOTH SHOTS
By DJSieffVerified Purchaser from Sydney, Austalia on 2/8/2007
Pros:
Attaches Firmly, Batteries last Long time, Can Handle 3-4kg cameras, Can Pan Tilt, Good Stability, Remote Control, Runs on Power or Battery, Up to Long Control Cable, Very Smooth slow speed
Cons:
Does not do 360 only 180, Only 30degree tilt SLOW, Small Range, Speed variant is minor, Very Slow Pan Tilt
Best Uses:
Can use for Crane head, On Tripod, Roof mount, Security, Stabilization
Describe Yourself:
Casual user, Professional
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

With this item cause of the price and the cheapest head you can get, I reckon it's good, but for a crane or fast camera moves, this will not help, it restricts your movement, cause of it's slow pan. So it depends what you need it for, I use it on a crane, and it works, but cant get a full control and speed of what I want, I'm restricted to it's capabilities. On a tripod or mount it somewhere just so you can get control from a distant or a moving effect shot, is what I'd recommend it for, but on a crane, it's just there to do the job, it is limited to what it can do, If there was something else better I'd prefer that over this.

When you cant reach your tripod!
By HarryVerified Purchaser from Cape Town, South Africa on 2/5/2007
Pros:
Attaches Firmly, Good Stability, Large Range of Motion, Strong Clamp
Cons:
Heavy
Best Uses:
Photography
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This is a really useful device, I use it for elevated photography on top of a 10 meter mast, I mount a D70 to it with quite a heavy lens, it handles the weight very well. I would recommend buying the additional remote cable as the one provided is not that long.
