No, I would not recommend this to a friend
The tripod is so shakey (i.e. vibrates too much) that it isn't really useful for anything - even at high shutter speeds and short focal lengths the shaking is so profound that it blurs the image.
Save your money and buy a better tripod - don't waste your money on this.
