Comments about Davis & Sanford Davis & Sanford ProVista Air 18 Tripod with FM-18 Fluid Head. (Head Supports up to 18 lbs., Tripods 12 lbs., extends 31" - 68"):
I've used lots of less expensive tripods over 30 years of shooting stills and videos. When I was ready to upgrade to a truly smooth video tripod, I wanted something that would give pro results without spending a fortune. This tripod is perfect for that. The construction is solid, but light enough to carry into the outback (in the provided bag, no less). Love the two control handles, two bubble levels and the adjustable smoothness of the tilt and pan.
Only slight negative: the pneumatic lift is a little "jumpy." It requires a fine adjustment to get a smooth rise.
Overall a great purchase.

Tripod flaws in head balance: not independent of tripod itself. Poor quality security screws and their position to the head/camera plate, and in arms to tripod.

The PROVista 7518B tripod is of heavy construction. It is fairly stable without added weight. Panning is smooth. However, Tiffen decided to use the absolute cheapest cast aluminum locks that the company could find. And the result was a product with brittle locks that could easily shatter. Further, Tiffen made no provision for hanging sandbags from the unit. As for feedback to / support from Tiffen's marketing team, forget it. In short, the superior design attributes of the base tripod are lost in the cheap ancillary components used. This is product is a lemon.
