Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
I used it with my D200 and 12-24mm dx lens. Since I was mostly shooting wide angle, I didn't see any problem with stability. Packs up nicely. All parts seem to be solid except for the telescoping legs, which are a bit flimsy.
