This tripod is very sturdy. I use it for wildlife photography and it does the job. It is a little heavy if your going to hike very far but not to bad.

A little heavy, but that is outweighed by the other capabilities of this tripod. Range of height is outstanding with good weight capacity and locks in strong. Good tripod for any terrain and its construction is solid. Would want something slimmer and lighter for travel, although it fit into my checked bag fine on my last flight. I bought this as a versitle all-around tripod and I am not disappointed.

I put it to work recently at the Studebaker museum. Lighting was very low with lots of small spotlighting on the cars. Most of my shots were 1 sec. exposures and the results were astounding.

I am totally satisfied with this tripod
By Old ChuckVerified Purchaser from Madison, Virginia on 2/5/2007
Pros:
Good Stability, Unfolds Quickly
Cons:
Heavy but priced right
Best Uses:
Long Exposures, Photography, Stabilization
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Very stable and quick to set up. It is a litle heavy. I use a backpack on photo hikes so weight is not an issue.
The tripod is very well made and the head adjustments are smooth which was an issue for me with cheaper tripods as well as stability.
Iam totally satisfied with this purchase.

Best use for their 4 way release plate!
By DannyVerified Reviewer from Boston on 12/18/2006
Pros:
Good Stability, Lightweight, Unfolds Quickly
Cons:
6 leg locks, 340 has 9
Best Uses:
Christmass lights, Night photography, Panoramics

If your veiwfinder can be seen from above take some pictures this Christmass from the viewpoint of a child thats kneehigh to a man!
I found the short center shaft I've spent months looking for, I recommend buying one as well as a 2nd. quick release plate, and bullseye hot shoe level with a 1/4"-20 hole like kaiser makes, you can attach it to the quick release plate to level the head or a center shaft to level the legs so when your panning to do a panoramic your parallel to the horizon.
