I needed a light but sturdy tripod that would be compact enough to fit in the back pack I got with my spotting scope. This tripod fits inside perfectly and gives me an excellent platform for my scope while sitting.

This is a good travel tripod, not much bigger than a table top model but will extend to waist height. It is pretty stable for a budget model (the unambitious height helps here) and will hold a consumer dslr and zoom without too much movement.
I recommend it as a far superior alternative to a tabletop tripod.
