No, I would not recommend this to a friend
This tripod is a mixed bag - it's small and compact enough to fit in a pocket, but I have had some stabilization issues (i.e. my camera is too heavy for its construction) - I have used it for long exposers on hikes, but for day to day uses my large tripod is best
