This is a very good tripod that will adjust and stay steady in most any environment. The only trade-off is that it is a bit heavy.

Comments about Vanguard Vanguard Elite 4, 3-Section Professional Carbon Fiber Tripod with 3-Way Photo Magnesium Alloy Panhead, Maximum Height 74", Supports 22 lbs.:

I was convinced that the pan head on my new Elite 4 was welded on to the legs. [...] I contacted Vanguard to ask for help before returning the tripod. By morning Vanguard responded with assurance that the head needed a little coaxing with a sharp rap. I tightened the head and whacked it with a plastic hammer. This strong, precise head loosened right up. I was so impressed with the immediate attention the folks at Vanguard gave me, I ordered another one for a friend. My other tripods are toys compared to this tough, strong beauty.

Comments about Vanguard Vanguard Elite 4, 3-Section Professional Carbon Fiber Tripod with 3-Way Photo Magnesium Alloy Panhead, Maximum Height 74", Supports 22 lbs.:

The tripod seems to be constructed solidly. It is lightweight and stores away nicely and easily (it even has a built in shoulder strap). The head has very fluid movement on all three axes. Although I am only an amature, and this is the first quality tripod I have ever bought, so my opinion may not be very valid.

I bought this product to use with my Canon 2.8 400 which is quite heavy and can come off a cheaper tripod. I found it does the job nicely without worry.I do quite a bit of wildlife and bird photography and wish I had purchased one earlier.

Comments about Vanguard Vanguard Elite 4, 3-Section Professional Carbon Fiber Tripod with 3-Way Photo Magnesium Alloy Panhead, Maximum Height 74", Supports 22 lbs.:

The tripod on it's own it's fantastic. The head, is annoying from the stand point that it has three areas to be managed, and while holding the camera to be sure nothing happens to it, you are three hands short of making confortable changes. Besides thehead, the tripod is fantastic.

I needed a stable platform for my Nikon D-300 and my 500 mm lense. The Vanguard provides the needed stability. It is easy to set-up and use although it is a bit heavy. However, I made the decision to purchase a heaver, but sturdier tripod than the ones that I have been using.
