I mainly use this for outdoor photography. I take it on short hikes when needed, but I mainly use it for when I'm driving around. It is pretty heavy to hike with, but since I am a graduate student not getting paid much money, I can't afford carbon fiber. Plus a pro is also from this being heavy. I've put this in a river out here in Montana and used a slow shutter speed to soften the water/waterfall. It remained stable and the shot was great. The flip-lock legs are the best out there: easy to adjust and solid construction. This is a beefier tripod than I need for my Canon 40D, but I wanted to use it in extreme situations(like putting it in a river) and not have to worry about the quality and construction being a problem. Overall this is a great tripod and to respond to the bad review above: all you need is a different head that adjusts properly.
This a great tripod for the money, very stable, low angle is great, set the legs all the way open, set the center post to horizontal and flip your ball head into the 90 degree position and your on the ground with a horizontal shot. If you want your head to be upright just add the angle braket 553. If you like to stand upright this tripod is almost at eye level with the center post down. From on the ground to over your head this is a very versatile peice that is small enough to fit in my motorcycles saddlebag.

Ok, so my Bogen 3021 pro b tripod was stolen. This is supposed to be the new improved version that is to replace it. I'm not quite sure why but it just doesn't seem as well built as the 3021. Anyway, my biggest complaint is that the minimum height is misleading. You can only shoot that low if you want to do verticals because you have to put the center column in the horizontal position. I dunno I think I might return this and go back to the 3021 wich includes the piece for low angle shooting.

I have a Gitzo traveler and so was looking for an everyday outdoor photography tripod that would be stable enough to hold my D80 + as heavy as a 300/f4 lens. I like to go hiking and take everything from landscapes to Macro to wildlife shots. This tripod is perfect for someone who wants the versatility to be able to move their camera from the 6 feet high to the ground, easily. While not a lightweight tripod, it is still light enough to hike with. It is more stable than my $600 Gitzo G1155T and more adaptable. I was worried that the horizontal center column feature would be gimicky or hard to operate. It is great! It is very intuitive. You simply loosen the locking nut for the center column (located where all tripods have them) and slide the center column up all the way. There is a button on the bottom of the center column, you press that lightly and the column rotates from vertical to horizontal! Takes 5 seconds tops! and is very stable. If you want the column to angle towards the ground for macro shots, you simply adjust the angles of the legs to point the column towards the ground. it is a joy to use. I'm starting to wonder why I paid $600 for that Gitzo. Ridiculous compared to the [$] I paid for this awesome tripod. [...]
