OVER RATED!!!
By Photo BobVerified Purchaser from Chicago, IL on 6/27/2008
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

When the fourth section or leg is extended the tri-pod becomes extremely flimsy and wobbley!
Can not be used completely extended.

I broke the vertical level when it flopped over, folded up and about to go into the bag. Not too big of a loss, but a bummer. It unscrews for replacement.
Nice, solid feel.

The rubber grips on the leg extensions are easy to use and are positive in their grip. Great for leveling.

The tripod is the perfect companion for the outdoors photographer who doesn't want to carry a heavy tripod or pay twice as much for a similar product. It opens nicely, has easily adjustable legs and can lie flat on the ground for low shots. The only negative is the zipper orientation on the carrying pack. If it were simply reversed the pack could carry the tripod with a head attached. As it is, the head must be removed or the zipper sort of "half masted" to let the head hang out. I'm surprised the designers of the case didn't see this when they specified the zipper direction.

Value for $$$, yes
By NathanVerified Reviewer from Where my suitcases are, literally. on 5/30/2008

None at this weight
Best Uses:
Long Exposures, Reducing Noise (ISO Reduction), Stabilization

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I travel extensively for work and I backpack. I'm using a D70 Nikon, heaviest lens - 28-70mm with lee filter set on the front.
I wanted very light and small enough to pack in a 21 inch suitcase. (largest piece of carry-on luggage)
I've had it over a year now, it has been to the top of the Chisos and Guadaloupe Mountains in Texas. It has been around the world. It is holding up nicely.
You can go to the hardware store and add a hook if you need to hang a bag for extra stability.
Look, weight vs strength, it's a trade off.

Good value for price
By tigerbVerified Reviewer from Philadelphia, PA on 4/29/2008
Pros:
Lightweight, Price
Cons:
Bag needs to be longer
Best Uses:
Long Exposures, Stabilization

Good price for a carbon fibre. Construction is good. Stability is ok. Lacks hook to add more weight. Turn locks extend and tighten easily.

Tripod is actually 21.5" and 3lbs. I had height and weight requirements and returned it with no hassles.

Bag does need to be longer. Otherwise, pretty good value for a carbon fibre tripod.

Solid carbon tripod[...]
By SierraVagabondVerified Reviewer from Fresno, CA on 4/27/2008
Pros:
Folds Small, Lightweight, Unfolds Quickly
Cons:
Unstable lower legs
Describe Yourself:
Hobbyist/Enthusiast
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This is an excellent tripod for the money, probably the best one out there for the price. I have a Gitzo mountaineer, but is too big to lug around hiking in the Sierras. This is a perfect size.

Just two things. Its lower leg components are little thicker than a pencil and somewhat unstable, i.e. bends slightly at the hinges. It also would benefited from having a hook to hang the camera bag for the further stabilization.

Overall, I am very satisfied and would definitely recommend to my friends.

Why the short case?

This Gitzo copy seems fine but why waste production on a case that won't fit the tripod with a head installed?

I would have preferred a strap that works on the tripod alone. I will never carry the tripod in a case. It's too bad this case will just collect dust, as its a nice case.

Obvious Shortcomings
By Agent SamVerified Reviewer from Atlanta, GA on 4/14/2008
Describe Yourself:
Getting started

I just unpacked this and I saw two obvious improvements that could have been made to this tripod:

1) It comes with a really nice ballistic nylon case for it that fits it perfectly--the case doesn't have room for a head. Uh, do people really take the heads off the tripod every time they get done shooting?

Suggestion: Don't provide the case and drop the cost $10.

2) The instructions look like someone used babblefish to translate them and I quote directly from the instructions:

"2. When to extend the tripod, please first pull the nameplate place-clamp outward, or there would be no way to position."

SAY WHAT?

Suggestion: Get a Private School 3rd grader to rewrite the instructions.

I'd always taken photos without a tripod, but came across a "pro" who clued me in to its advantages. Called Adorama. Salesman recommended this model. After limited use by me, no complaints!

I ride a motorcycle and needed a tripod that was not to big so I could get it in the saddlebag, works well on the BMW and the Goldwing, came with a nice carrying bag. Stable even with the D300 and 18-200lens.

Pros:
Lightweight
Cons:
Weak Construction
Describe Yourself:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I was hoping that this would live up to its billing. It arrived with one of the lower leg segments with a crack in it as a started.

The quality is poor. Cheaply made and no where near the quality of other tripods.

I'd advise getting a real carbon fiber model.

I already have a very good carbon fiber tripod. But at more than 6 pounds I rarely take it out to the field because of it?s size and weight. The Flashpoint F-1128 was the perfect solution for me. It handles 99% of my needs at a much smaller size at less than 50% of the weight. Now I never have to regret not taking a tripod out with me. And for the price, buying this was a no-brainer. Great tripod at a terrific price. [...]
