I had purchased 2 old Model #3030 Bogen tripods at a photoshop that was cleaning out it's store room. I also picked up a 3047 head. The tripods were scavanged into one good one but The heads were shot. I had no way of mounting the 3047 or any other modern head due to the center column just ending, basically like an open end of a pipe. It was geared too. I measured the diameter of what I needed & I fit the Bogen short column into the old center column. I had to make a bit of shim for a tight fit but it holds & works great. Now I can mount what ever head I want on this large, classic tripod.
