With Bogen-Manfrotto Extension you can look through it with little wear and tear on the back.

The Bogen-Manfrotto Extension appears to be of an all metal construction. It extends from 6" to 10". It is small enough to fit in my pocket, but should fit in your too. It weighs about 3 oz. It is made for a thread sixe of 3/8" inch.

When you have the extension on, and extended all the way out, the Bogen-Manfrotto is less sturdy with a SLR with a heavy or long lense.

There may be other talbetop tripods that can do a better job, but I wanted to get all Bogen-Manfrotto support equipment.
