This is a very impressive compact device. I was weary of the direct to DVD since this was my first. I have owned Digital 8 and Mini DV cameras including the Sony VX-2000. This camera does everything I need. It is very easy to use. The video quality is excellent. I played a finalized DVD in my XBOX 360 on a 42" plasma. It looked very very good with very little and unnoticable pixelation. I do wish there was a output for a microphone, little bit longer optical zoom and longer lasting battery. Those are the only things that kept me from giving all 5 stars. There are accessories to buy to fix these problems but at the price it would have been nice to include them. Bottom line.......look no further than the DC40 for a DVD camcorder.
