This is an inexpensive way to soften your flash effect, and helps reduce shine on subjects' faces. It should not be used for lighting a huge group, however, as it reduces flash output by 2 to 3 stops. If you're shooting two to six people on auto iTTL, or small groups at ISO 400 or higher, you're okay. When I shoot weddings, I keep one of these on my flash about 70% of the time.
