Great Lens!

This lens is great. I originally wanted the nikon 17-55 but that was just a bit too pricey, so i found the sigma. I was a bit nervous about it sinice it is a third party lens, but quickly changed my mind once I shot with it. It locks focus quickly, I have read it is slow, BUT it is not. The focus ring turns while in AF, it is not a big deal, just hold a little behind the ring. Which is easy because the ring is placed towards the end of the lens. The zoom is backwards from nikon, again no big deal. To those who think this is a problem, use mind over matter...not that hard, set the lens the length you want and zoom with your FEET. The OS works very well. The night I received it I took a test shot hand held and only lit by the 1 75w bedroom bulb, and is sharp. Shutter if i remember right was 1/10. This lens is also very sharp. The next day took shome shots of my son playing at a park, I was amazed to say the least. A must have lens.

The out door pics were ok but the indoor low light pics were horrible at best every face had orange tint in them & poor low light in back/sides of the subject almost blacked out. I would never recommend this lens to anyone !

Awesome Lens

By

from Rochester NY  -  Photo Enthusiast

My main use is for family photos and events. This zoom range works well for tight shots. The F2.8 enables more indoor shots with existing light. Along with the ability to zoom in or out makes it much easier than using a fixed 30mm or 50mm prime lens. I only wish it was faster as f2.8 indoors does not blur the backgrounds as much as I would like. I also intend to do low light videos. Looking at other reviews one would think that this Sigma lens is much lighter than the Nikon 17-55mm f2.8. I was surprised by how heavy this Sigma F2.8 Zoom lens is. Much beafier than the kit Nikon lenses and feels like it will hold up well for my use. Lens feels solid and I'm not concerned nor sorry I didn't get the Nikon instead. Also the reviews show significant distortion at f2.8 and 17mm however I am satisfied with the portrait shots I've taken with a Nikon D7100. Definately recommend this lens.

Super Sharp, Very Impressed

By

from Berkley, MA  -  Semi-pro Photographer

Ok, I'm just going to get to the nitty-gritty. Soft at the edges at f2.8 It gets better at f4 Great at f5.6 The center is always super Sharp. I am amazed that this $xxx.xx lens is so sharp. I have a wedding to shoot with my D7000 and this is the perfect lens at the perfect price. Very compact, Image stabilization works great. If your on a budget you will not be disappointed. I have had to use my cameras ability to adjust the focus on some of my Nikon lenses. This one is spot on, no adjustment needed. GREAT LENS, GREAT PRICE

Awesome lens-great value

By

Hey, I have to admit I did not fully believe the ratings this lens got when I was researching it. But it has surprised from the moment I took it out of the box! Sharp IQ, fast focus, well built, and good bokeh! The only reason not to give it a 5 star was I don't feel the image stabilization is as spot on my my Tamron or Nikon lenses, but not bad. I can still use slower shutter speeds, but maybe one click faster than the other brands mentioned above. I use it a lot on a tripod, so I don't worry with the IS much. Headed to Nashville to get some skyline photos next week. I will try to come back and post those! If you need a good wide angle lens and money is tight- this is your lens

Tack sharp lens

By

from Temecula, Ca  -  Photography Student

Used the lens in the ghost town of Bodie, Calif. The day was off and on cloudy and the camera and lens worked great. Was able to get shots into old building window that I hadn't been able to do before. All the shots came out crystal clear. Great little lens.

Shopper  Which lens hood are you providing with this lens..??? Is the lens totally new?

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
MICHAEL N  FAVORABLE REVIEWS AND 1/2 THE PRICE OF NIKON BRAND. I SHOOT WEDDINGS SO IT'S GOOD ENUF.
