The Sigma 24-105mm F4 DG OS HSM Art lens is a premium lens designed for full frame cameras and will also work with APS-C sensors with an effective increase in focal length. The 24-105mm F4 is a highly versatile focal range and staple everyday lens. With the increasing resolution power of new sensors, it is designed to bring out the true potential of evolving camera technology.
Sigma's 24-105mm f4 includes proprietary Sigma technology including our Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) which ensures fast, quiet and accurate autofocusing as well as our Optical Stabilizer (OS) which compensates for camera shake. A 9 blade rounded diaphragm creates beautiful background blur, while FLD and SLD glass elements compensate for various aberrations, distortion and curvature.
The use of Thermally Composite Material (TSC) reduces size and weight and as part of the new Global Vision design, it is compatible with the Sigma USB dock for further customization and the new Mount Conversion Service.
Excellent build quality. Heavy.....? I see no reason to complain about the "heft" of a quality product. If I was thinking that I was getting a lower grade, plastic lens..... then maybe I would complain... :^/ Focus has been spot-on. My images have been very sharp throughout the focal range. I use it for my walk-around lens on my D610. Really do not understand feedback that bashes unsupported claims, and fear of what they "think" could happen. Excellent Lens IMHO
I've used this lens for a few weeks on my Canon 70D. My pictures were coming out tack sharp, but I went ahead and went thru the paces of calibrating the focus. No calibration needed. It was dead on. Contrast and color were excellent as well. A huge step up from my 18-135STM and was even better than the 50mm f1.8 for sharpness and overall image quality.
I am a prifesion wedding photographer. I normally shoot one to two weddings per week. This lens is the perfect focal length for my available light camera. I am getting more images from this lens that make me look at them and say wow. This lens has better color and clarity than my Nikon lenses.
For the price, Canon 24-105mm L IS has better build quality with magnesium alloy barrel, deadly reliable, sharper at 105mm and holds the value well. The new price for 24-105mm L IS is only about $650 come as KIT lens compared to this one for $899. No reason to get the CANON instead of Sigma who has unknown reliability and autofocus accuracy in the future.
I bought the Sigma 24-105 Art to use with my 5D Mark II based on many stellar reviews. So, when I got it I immediately did test shots (comparing to my EF 28-135) and discovered that generally the images were not up to the quality of my Canon EF 28-135 with the exception of contrast. After reviewing my images Sigma wasn't allowed to officially agree with my results but wanted me to send it back to them for calibration (wink, wink). I returned the lens for another copy and got the same results. Returned that copy and stayed with my Canon EF 28-135, which by the way also beat the Canon 24-105L. Just so you know, Canon agreed when seeing the comparisons! If you talk to Canon they may tell you that image quality is not the selling point of the L series but rather improved chromatic aberration, weather sealing, etc... The Sigma has a wonderful build quality and feels great in your hand. Gee I wanted it to perform like it looked. Adorama is great!
This is my fourth Sigma lens: 70-300, 18-250, 17-50. While I have thoroughly enjoyed the 70-300 and 18-250, I have been extremely impressed with the 17-50. It is a stunning lens. That said, the 24-105 trumps it. I was a little reluctant at first because of the weight and cost but am I ever glad I made the purchase. Yes, it is heavy but extremely well-built. It is quiet and focus seems to be accurate. Bottom line, I have found the images to be sharp, sharp, sharp. I am using it on a Nikon D7100 and am very happy with the results. Attached image was taken hand-held at ISO 3200, f-4 at 1/25 second. Sigma has another winner.
This is my everyday lens. It is very sharp, focuses quickly, and the optical stabilization works very well. I would rate the stabilization effective for at least 3.5 stops. The build quality is excellent. It balances very nicely on my 70D. Overall the Sigma 24-105 f4 is one of the best lenses I have ever owned.
After much research I bought the Sigma 24-105 as an upgrade to my Canon EF 28-135 "kit" lens. I immediately began test comparisons and was shocked to see that my Canon "kit" lens outperformed the Sigma! Lens calibration was done, micro focus was performed, manual focus comparisons were done, every focal range and f stop were tried... After a week of testing, corresponding with Sigma and re-testing all was confirmed that the Canon outperformed the Sigma "Art" lens (except occasionally in contrast). and... I tried two lenses!
Great focal length range, impressive image stabilization, as sharp as any of the canon lenses I have (sharper than one).
I have been very pleased with some of the newer Sigma products. I have the older 70-300, 17-50, 18-250 and now the 24-105 for Nikon. With time, each newly released lens has gotten progressively better. I have only used the 24-105 twice, but I am extremely pleased with its construction and above all, sharp images. Sigma has another winner!
