About Sigma 50-200mm

50-200mm F4-5.6 DC OS HSM. Compact, High Performance Telephoto Zoom Lens...

This compact high-performance telephoto zoom lens incorporates Sigma's own Optical Stabilizer function. The lens incorporates SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass in the front lens groups and is equipped with an inner focusing system to provide high image quality throughout the entire zoom range.

The incorporation of HSM (Hyper-Sonic Motor) ensures quiet and high-speed auto focus. The OS (Optical Stabilizer) function effectively eliminates the effects of camera shakeso subjects can be easily and clearly seen in the viewfinder as well as in the image. It allows the use of shutter speeds up to 4 stops slower than normal for steady, handheld photography.

For Sony and Pentax mounts the built-in OS System allows the photographer to see the stabilized image in the viewfinder and can be used as an alternative with cameras having built-in image stabilization. The Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting and provides high contrast images throughout the entire zoom range.

This lens has a minimum focusing distance of 43.3inches (110cm) throughout the entire zoom range and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:4.5. An inner focusing system eliminates front lens rotation, making it suitable for use with circular polarizing filters.

Good lens at a good price

from Manchester CT  -  Photo Enthusiast

I was looking for an inexpensive yet durable upgarde from my kit lens (18-55mm) and this fit the bill, for it's construction and use in the field. I primarily use it for landscapes and some family photos and keep it on the camera at all times.

Very nice updgrade

This was an upgrade from the standard kit lens. I keep it on the camera at all times and use it mainly for landscapes and candid shoots. Nice feel, very sturdy.

Awesome lens

from New York, NY  -  Semi-pro Photographer

I really love this lens and it has quickly become my Go-to piece of equipment. I am a photography student in art school and I use my lens for both school projects and freelance work and it handles great very versatile. I use it on both my Canon 50D DSLR and my Canon Rebel EOS Ti and works really well for both. My only grievance would be that when using it on my film camera I have problems sometimes because the lens creates vignettes on the image if you keep it between 160-200mm. However that is only because it isn't made for the film camera I use even though it fits on it. I mostly use it for close ups anyway on my film because it has great focus. So overall the lens it great. Use it mostly for digital or on a film camera that is fitted well to the body if you can find one. Its a great buy for the price.

Fantastic Value

from Urbana, IL  -  Photo Enthusiast

This lens is best for people that cannot afford the 70-200 f/2.8 or f/4. It is well constructed and does a decent job of focusing. If you're looking for a telephoto lens and can't lay down the money for a 70-200 definitely go with this.

Very nice lens for the price

from Westminster, Co  -  Photo Enthusiast

I bought this lens to use on a Canon Digital Rebel, that has been converted to infrared. I get very clean clear pictures with the auto focus and the stabilization. I use the lens for landscape, buildings and flower photography I feel for the price and the construction it is a very nice lens.
