About Sigma 70-200mm

Sigma's New APO 70-200mm F2.8 EX DG OS HSM is the second generation of this large aperture telephoto zoom lens now incorporating Sigma's Optical Stablization function, OS, Sigma's own anti-shake system.

Two FLD glass elements, which have the performance equal to fluorite glass have also been added along with three SLD glass elements, all which provide excellent correction of color aberration. In spite of the additions of all of these features, Sigma has managed to make the lens more compact than its predecessor, measuring only 7.8" in length.

For any serious photographer where the 70-200mm focal range is often the most important second lens to own after the initialstandards lens or mid range zooms. The fast aperture is extremely useful and important in low light environments or when shooting fast moving situations where a higher shutter speed demands maximum lights thru the lens.

HSM ensures quiet and high speed AF as well as full-time manual focus capability. Super Multi-Layer lens coating reduces flare ghosting and assures high image quality throughout the entire zoom range. It has a minimum focusing distance of 55.1 inches throughout the entire zoom range and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:8 The rounded 9 blade diaphragm creates an attractive blur to the out of focus images.

This lens is equipped with a petal-type hood. Its exceptional versatility as an all-around lens is perfect for journalists and wedding photographers. This latest version of the Sigma 70-200mm is well regarded for its outstanding image quality, light weight and ease of operation.

Please Note:
Pentax mounts do not have an aperture ring. Some functions may not work depending on the camera model.

For Pentax mounts, it is not possible to use the AF and the built-in OS function of this lens when attaching it to film SLR cameras as well as Pentax *ist series and K100D.

The Pentax mount Tele Converter cannot be used with this particular lens.

Just buy it.

from Oregon  -  Semi-pro Photographer

If you want a 70-200 with VR just buy this. Is the Nikon version a little sharper? Sure. Could you tell the difference on a 20x30 at 2 feet? No. If you like to pixel peep at 1,000,000% spend twice as much for the Nikon. Otherwise, save yourself a bunch of money and buy this. Just don't drop it.

Nice lens for the price

from Newark, CA  -  Photo Enthusiast

It is a relatively new purchase for me but I am impressed with the overall quality and performance of this lens. I have not used the equivalent Nikon lens so can't compare the two. However, I was very clear about how much I was going to spend. If this is your budget, go for it.

Good for starters....

If you are new or semi-new photographer looking for a f2 zoom lens but cant afford the Canon or Nikon brand this is a good option! Its well priced, sold feel, good photos. Tho I will say that ive had trouble at times with its focus, esp at night shooting concerts. If your shooting on a crop senser camera then i would suggest this for sure.

I have had good results using this lens.

from Lincoln, NE  -  Semi-pro Photographer

I use this mainly for shooting my son playing tennis and portraits. I have had good results for each use. The $750 savings over the Sony version is the main reason I bought this lens. I do not have comparison shots for these lenses so I cannot comment on that. However, I am not disappointed and would buy this lens again. I would not recommend this lens for travel or a walk-around lens, as it is too big and too heavy.

Great for indoor and night sports.

from Redding, CA  -  Casual Photographer

My husband and I take photos of our grandchildren's' sports events. Just used this lens for the first time this past weekend. Love it's performance. For the first time we were able to shoot indoor basketball games without blur and the yellowish tint from court photos, At the night football game, much clearer photos with less blur were obtained. We are novices so I know that just working with this lens a bit we will be able to get those great shots we need. Adorama directed us on the right path with this lens. They were most helpful.

A must have

from Birmingham, Alabama  -  Pro Photographer

This is a great lens, everyone should have this is their collection. The focus is fast and accurate in low light conditions. I use the lens for High School sports and have been very pleased with the quality of the images from my Nikon cameras. Great price value vs comparable lenses
