At this price... you can't go wrong !
As [@] said : "We rarely publish uncompromising opinions in our summaries but here it would be difficult not to include one. Providing you own a Nikon or Sony reflex camera I personally don't see any reason why you should buy any brand-name 1.4/85 lenses. The Sigma is cheaper, better and it comes with a longer guarantee – as simple as that. You must be really very infatuated with "Zeiss" or "Nikkor" magical words to prefer their lenses to the Sigma."

I have had to return this lens 4 times now to Adorama because they continue sending me copies that consistently back focus. This is a significant problems on a F1.4 lens where the depth of field is already paper thin. To the lens' credit, it is very sharp stopped down to 5.6 or so, when the back focusing issues are not as apparent. Adorama's customer support has been horrible and inconsistent with half the customer service agents assuring me that they would inspect the lens carefully for back focusing issues before shipping it as a replacement. The other half of the agents tell me they NEVER open any merchandise before sending it out. Either way, I do not have a working copy of the lens and am very frustrated with Sigma. This focusing issue is very common and unless you have the time and patience to indefinitly exchange lens, don't bother.

Used this lens for the first time at Thanksgiving, in very low light, wide open. Even though I was still getting used to the lens, the images turned out stunning. Extremely clear and crisp where in focus, and nice bokeh. Focus acquisition is a little slower than for my 70-200/2.8, but I'd expect that for a f/1.4 lens
I have just purchased this but I had demoed it before deciding to buy it. It is a very nice portrait lens and very fast at f1.4. I took some shots at f1.4, f2, etc. and was amazed at how sharp they were. It was also much less costly than Canon's 85mm lens.
Works well on my full frame camera. Will make a great companian lens to the Sigma 35mm, 1.4.
I really love this lens, I use it for kids portraits and it works great. Perfect focus, lovely bokeh.
Very fast very Sharp lens great for portraits and weddings
I bought this lens to replace a very old Nikon 85mm f/1.4D, which I was planning to keep as a backup. The Sigma is just ok. There is nothing awful about it, but the focus seems a little slower and slightly less accurate than the Nikon. I had hoped for faster focus than my old lens. The bokeh is also not nearly as pleasing as the Nikon (in my opinion).
I am not a fan of third party, off brand lens' but over the last 40 years I have bought some and tried some more. After reading mostly good views of this lens. I decided to give one a try. After all it is the best side of a grand cheaper. It is not an "L" lens but it is close. Don't think you are getting one because you are not. You will be getting outstanding optics and rugged build. Not weather resistant. The imagines are spectacular and my copy has worked perfectly right from the box. I use a 1D Mk III and a 5D Mk II. You get a hood with a sorta silly extender for use on a APS-C sensor camera. No extender for the APS-H sensor, however. Nice padded case that serves as the shipping protection. I can recommend the Sigma 85mm f1.4 EX without hesitation.
Read many good things but lens was shipped w/ a defective focus motor. I will be returning it and asking for an exchange. I hope the next one works.
