I had the lightweight plate for my small dslr which, with a lens weighed less than 2 lbs. When I switched to a larger lens and camera, weighing 4 lbs., this plate started to bend. The heavier duty plate is much more robust and secure and still allows you to easily keep your tripod plate on all the time.

I have used the spider holster system awhile now, the best way to carry your camera in my opinion. I originally bought the spider holster system for my D7100. I now have a new D500, one hell of a great camera... This new spider plate is for my new camera.

When shooting sports or events, it requires multiple cameras. When using the spider holster system, the spider plates allows you to securely & easily manage 2-3 cameras. The plates can be locked onto and quickly removed from the holster, allowing you to have 2 bodies on the holster & 1 in your hand. The holster prevents the cameras from swinging back& forth. The plates are strong and interchange attachments for left & right side. You can attach a shoulder strap to the bottom of it for the extra protection of the camera slipping out of your hand. You can also attach a tri or monopod plate on the bottom.

I purchased the CarrySpeed sling strap system and the base plate that came with it was a horrible. Poorly machined rip-off of the Spider Plate. The CarrySpeed strap is, however, fantastic. Rather than wait for a redesign, I dropped [$] on this so I could use my sling strap while I wait for a redesign of the CarrySpeed strap. The design of the plate is ok, but uncomfortable to use when your camera has a battery grip and use switch over to it for a portrait. Too pricey for my needs, but I needed my sling strap so I paired them. It works pretty good overall for what it is though.
