About Sekonic L-358

The Sekonic L-358 Flash Master is an advanced, yet easy to operate, exposure analyzing light meter, that incorporates the latest technology in handheld meters. The L-358 features a retractable incident Lumisphere for standard or cosine corrected light readings, provides both hemispherical and narrow angle readings. Measurements can be taken in either incident or flash metering modes with accurate and convenient flash and ambient analyzing.

In all electronic flash measurements, an analyzing feature simultaneously evaluates both flash and ambient light and displays the values in three ways: a) combined readings of flash and ambient, b) percentage of flash in the total exposure or c) simultaneous display of flash, ambient and combined readings on the analog scale. An easy-to-read illuminated LCD panel directly displays full, 1/2 or 1/3-stop shutter speeds or apertures and exposure/calibration compensation. Selecting settings is quick and easy with the built-in Jog wheel and cine shutter speeds up to 360 frames per second makes the L-358 a versatile tool in the most demanding lighting scenario. Optional spot finders extend the versatility of the meter with a choice of 1, 5 or 10 degree measuring angles with a viewable parallax-free viewfinder.

The L-358 Sekonic Flash Master incorporates the world's first optional internal Digital Radio Transmitter Module compatible with Sekonic and PocketWizard Digital Radio Receivers, which eliminates the need for an additional external transmitter at the meters position.

The Sekonic L-358 is commonly used for Artwork, Everyday, Film, Home, Outdoor events / games, Photography, Photojournalism, Portraits, Professional, Professional work, Sporting events, Studio, Travel and more. The Sekonic L-358 is most used by customers who consider themselves to be a Enthusiast, Photo enthusiast, Professional, Pro photographer, Semi-professional, Semi-pro photographer among others. The Sekonic L-358 is popular because customers like the following qualities of the Sekonic L-358: Accurate, Compact, Consistent, Durable, Easy to use, Great features, Improves product function, Lightweight, Simple controls, Strong construction and Versatile

Does it's job well - minor catch

I'm using this for determining studio flash setups faster. It works well, but with a minor catch for Pocket Wizard FlexTT5 users (and I assume MiniTT1 users). Documentation says the remote trigger for the L-358 will trigger any Pocket Wizard. The L-358 uses the standard Pocket Wizard channels, but the FlexTT5 does not. Disappointing

I ordered the Sekonic L-358 Flash Master with its corresponding transmitter. However, Adorama sent the wrong transmitter and refused to make the necessary correction. Consequently, I have refrained from making additional purchases from you. Furthermore, Adorama should provide its employees additional training not only about the equipment you sell, but also how to treat your customers.

Don't Know Why I Waited! Fantastic Tool

Gives perfect settings every time for lighting and when used in conjunction with the camera's own metering system, the results are fantastic!

Great meter

By

from VA  -  Semi-pro Photographer

This is a great meter calculates light ratios from flash as well as ambient. While you can make the argument that adjustments can be made after you take the picture there is a lot to be said about getting it right the first time and this meter will give you the perfect ratio you are looking for and the correct settings. Combine it with a profile card and you have perfect pictures every time. If you get the radio card you can control pocket wizard enabled flash from the meter. If you are considering a meter this is an excellent meter to have. Only thing I have a negative on is that the writing is white on a silver body so you need to be familiar with the buttons or in a darkened studio you may not be able to read them.

I wonder why I waited so long...

By

from Boston, MA  -  Semi-pro Photographer

I no longer rely on the camera's meter to give me exposure readings. The Sekonic is more accurate. Almost every shot I take has the right exposure. I wish I had purchased a light meter years ago.

Love the Sekonic L-3587

By

from TEXAS  -  Photography Student

I am still learning, but have quickly learned the light meter really gets perfect exposure. too many times have I been disappointed by my in camera meter, but the sekonic 358 is spot on. Oh and the Adorama TV tutorial really helped. I love watching Adorama TV - I feel like I know you guys and I am all the way in Texas!!

Great tool, tried it in a wide range of apertures and shutter speeds, in very low and very bright light, it always delivers consistent results. I've made several purchases from Adorama, always timely deliveries and products as described.

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
JON S  This is a great meter about which I have one serious complaint--the color of the letter of the buttons and controls on this meter cannot be read because they are so light. Whoever decided that you don't need to be able to read the lettering on this meter ought to be made to sit in a darkened studio and figure this out. Really--an otherwise great product that is made less useful by something this simple to fix.
Lynn D  Is the module 32 add on compatible with Alien Bees B800 strobes for wireless firing?
CHARLES H  The pocket wizard add on will work with pocket wizard's plugged into the Alien Bees. Shot with them several times. But, if you are asking if the Pocket Wizard add on will work with the Paul C. Triggers; then I don't know. But probably not since the channels are encrypted. If you are asking if the pocket wizard module works with pocket wizard triggers on an Alien Bee; then the answer is yes. I have used them on the 400 and the 800.
JM J  I have a Quantum Strobe, Can I fire ir remotely, and What would I need? Thanks
DONALD R  I use the 358 along with the optional Sekonic Radio Triggering Module (RT-32, Transmitter for Sekonic L358 & L608 & L558) to trigger my lights that have PocketWizards on them. I am not familiar with the Quantums if they are radio enabled, so you may need to connect Pocketwizard receivers on the lights to trigger them (if they are not radio enabled). You can use this meter without the remote triggers, to meter lights, but it uses a timing schedule to meter the next strobe that fires. If you are in an environment that has multiple shooters with multiple strobes, the triggering module would be a necessity to avoid metering the wrong light source. I hope this helps.
