About SLR Magic 17mm T1.6

The SLR Magic 17mm lens is standard wide angle lens ideal for general photography and cinematography. Extremely fast T1.6 lens offering a 17mm focal length (34mm, 35mm format equivalency) and is exclusively designed for the Micro Four Thirds mount. Currently supported by Olympus, Panasonic and Black Magic system cameras. It offers superior sharpness even in low light situations. The 17mm T1.6 is particularly well-suited for street and architectural photography. Cinematographers will love this lens too!

The solid metal construction houses ten aperture blades giving a beautiful bokeh and a "de-clicked" aperture control (aperture measured in T-stops and this is the actual available light measurement.). The aperture can therefore be set step-lessly and silently, which allows soft transitions in luminance. That way there is less post-processing after shooting. 1/3 stops can be used also.

Great Lens, Great Price

from Newmarket, NH

For the price, this lens is perfect for a 50mm full frame equivalent on the BMPCC. Seems sharp enough, super close minimum focusing distance, nice bright aperture and pretty bokeh. Highly recommended.

Nice lens with lots of character

from College Station, TX

This is a beautifully built, fast lens with a lot of character. It's not the sharpest lens -- in fact it's actually a little soft, but it has a very pleasing image that is very cinematic. It reminds of older Angenieux lens, a little low contrast, rather prone to flare (in an interesting way). Not for everybody, and if you value razor sharpness over all else this is the best choice, but I like it.

Questions about this item:

Mauricio Q  Will this lens work with the Blackmagic studio camera?
GREG K  Yes. The Micro 4/3 mount is universal and this lens can be used on the Black Magic camera. I have not personally used in this capacity. However, at NAB ( The National Association of Broadcasters Convention) I saw the Black Magic camera displayed with SLR magic 12mm and 17mm lenses. I have all Cine Primes - used with a Panasonic GH3, and they are all really nice lenses for the money.
Shopper  Is this lens any sharper than the 12mm wide open?
GREG K  Yes, but by just a little. They are very comparable under most shooting conditions,
