The Softron's MovieRecorder 2 is a Mac-based, multi-format acquisition software for television stations and post-production facilities. It digitizes video into self-contained QuickTime reference clips for use in Softron programs and 3rd party programs like Final Cut Pro and Final Cut Server.
The MovieRecorder 2 supports up to 8 simultaneous streams, but one license is required for each stream. When downloading the software, you'll have the option of selecting a Single, Dual, Quad, or Octo version, depending on how many streams you want. Eight licenses will allow you to ingest eight SD or 4 HD streams. Multiple streams will also require multiple capture cards, which can be used on the same or different workstations. Most PCI, Thunderbolt and ExpressCard cards are supported.
Ingests can be scheduled to automatically take place over time or can be triggered manually and clips can be stored to multiple locations at the same time. Any number of licenses can be remotely controlled via a supporting app called MovieRecorder Control, which is included, or via MovieRecorder Remote. MovieRecorder Control is Mac-based and MovieRecorder Remote is for iPhones and iPads.
The MovieRecorder 2 uses dynamic memory buffering, which is less memory-intensive than normally when compressing incoming video streams and thereby overcomes AFP server file size limitations present in the original MovieRecorder. The MovieRecorder 2 Pro option, additionally allows capture of proxy clips and metadata, customization of metadata keys and batch capture from tape decks.
