So I've had my clock for a few years now and everything still works great... I want to buy another one to give as a gift but I'm concerned about the only problem I've had with this product...the casing covering the power plug has been slowly cracking and breaking apart...I've sort of crudely put it back together with rubber bands but I'm worried it will happen again...I should note that I've never dropped it (the plug) even though it's heavy, which I found unusual....

I wanted to use the radio but I haven’t been able to figure out how to use it easily. I like that it is connected to the atomic clock(I think)

The display is to bright and can't be dimmed enough so you need to turn it off. Setting the alarm's is a nightmare.

This was a replacement for an old but good Sony and what a disappointment. I have struggled with it for 2 years. How do you set the time ? It runs a little fast (umm, how is that possible? not quartz?) and every several months I need to move it back 5 minutes. First, you need the user manual (really?!) because no combination of pushing the buttons labeled 'time set' will do you any good. The worst is the alarm off/reset button. When I awake, often other family members are still asleep - so I want to reset the alarm so that it will wake me tomorrow. For many people this would be the most often used button. The button to do so is tiny and next to other buttons one does NOT want to push. It is so poorly labeled that excellent vision in good light is needed to read it. Neither of those conditions were present, so, I took to hitting the 'sleep' button 6 times so that the radio was off for another hour. But then my daughter or wife would come and try to turn the radio off and , because the reset button is tiny hidden and hard to read, would push other buttons that often just turned the alarm off, so that I overslept the next day. This happened once per month for almost 2 years - finally I took some white paint and marked the silly button. There are other dumb design problems as well... Just poor user design - what a disappointment. Obvious statement: If people need a user manual on a clock you messed up design. While I'm at it: The nature sounds - sound fake and lame. I can't imagine anyone using them but who knows. Surely not worth the complicated user interface that seems mostly designed to allow you to easily pick a fake lame nature sound.

I've had this radio for 4+ years and was thinking about replacing it due to the blue screen. With all the information about keeping away from blue light prior to sleep I'm amazed that manufactures keep putting out blue displays. Now this one was blue long before this information came out. So in looking for a new radio I came to find out that most of them will not trigger the alarm on the backup battery. This one will, and that's really important to me. On other radios the backup battery is there to save settings only. So what I decided to do was to order some yellow glass cling film to make the display green instead of blue. It might take two layers but that's what I'm going for. If that doesn't work well enough I'm going to just shut off the display completely - which is another unique feature on this unit. So I'm keeping this until the sad day that it breaks. I also like the thermometer and the FM/AM reception is way above average on this unit. It does take some getting used to with setting up the alarms. Just give yourself some time and not try to make the changes at the last minute!

Very difficult to program, even when following the manual. Could never get it set to a specific station for the radio alarm. Indicator shows the lithium battery is dead, but the screw is so blasted small I couldn't get the case open to replace it. This unit is now awaiting pick-up from the sanitation department.

This unit was unplugged and the battery went dead and now I can’t set the date! The date is set at 1/1/2010 and without being able to set the date to the current date, the unit is worthless!

I have had this for a few years, but now it suddenly stopped working. I know why. Neither this nor any other clock radio with projection has DAB. When will the firs DAB Clock radio with projection come?

Pros: Love the footprint on my window ledge (no direct sunlight). Other features exceed what I was looking for to replace my 30-year-old radio. Cons: I DO NOT find the blue backlighting easy to read--contrast is poor with black. Orange backlight would have been perfect.

It's a reliable "clock" radio during the day. Unfortunately, there are three illumination settings for the clock - bright, dim, and off. Both the bright and dim settings are too bright to allow sleep at night. And, the off setting does not allow you to check the time in a dark room. This product should be sold as a "radio", not an alarm clock radio. I wrote to SONY, but received a dis-interested response.

This works fine and the sound is surprisingly good for its size, but even at the dimmest setting, the light is very bright in a darkened room. Not good for a clock radio in a bedroom. Find another solution.

I simply did not think that this Dream Machine was worth the amount of money charged; for two basic reasons. The machine did not feel like quality material, and there were far too many cords issuing forth from the device. Sony needs to redesign this device with higher quality plastics, and design the auxiliary cord, and antenna cord, as detachable. I hope this feedback improves future models. Being mindful of sounding too negative, or counterproductive, but over the past 24 months I have seen a profound reduction in the quality of Sony products, while prices continue to increase.

It is nice to wake up to the nature sounds instead of an alarm or the radio

I bought this for the nature sounds; I'm overall happy with the sounds. The waves have a bird chirping in it, I find that annoying. I love that this clock doesn't dock to my iPod. Docking is really bad for the iPod battery, so I love that this has a simple headphone cable. For the price, I'd expect the sound quality to be a bit better. What I really hate about this clock, and was tempted to take it back because of it, is the backlit display. The backlight is brighter than the digits that tell the time. I can barely see the time whether night or day. Overall, its ok.

Almost perfect but because of the one con, I would not recommend. The backlight on it is way too bright even on the dimmest setting. The backlight can be turned off entirely (clock still functions) but it's nice to see the time at night. So dissapointed!!!

Pictured on Sony's site, and everywhere else is a 24 hour clock, however this unit does NOT do 24 hours. Sony, refresh your site image, false advertising! Also, this clock is VERY bright, even at it's lowest setting, lights up the whole room, I have to turn it off completely at night, preventing me from seeing what time it is if I get up in the middle.

Very good overall, if you don't mind the bright display that lights up the room even on the dimmest setting. Also alarm off botton difficult to find as it is small and amongst similar bottons.

Once I saw all the features this alarm clock had I had to get it. I coudn't believe the number of features including the nature sounds that actually sounds like nature sounds. They're still a bit grainy and tinny but not nearly as bad as many other brands and models. I love that hitting the snooze button for the alarm does *not* turn on the clock backlight (my iHome does this and it's annoying). The main thing missing from this unit is the napping feature. I often like to shut off my alarm and sleep for another 20 minutes using a napping feature instead of the snooze (which I like to keep at 10 minutes). So I really miss the nap feature. I also wish the alarm off button (or Power off) was either alone and/or felt different to the touch then all the other buttons. I want to make sure that I'm turning my alarm off and not selecting a different feature instead. It's a small button in a line of small buttons so it can be hard to find it, especially by feel. My biggest wish is to have an alarm clock just like this, all the features - and the small size is amazing - with a talking clock! I love to know exactly how much time i can stay in bed before I really need to get up and the talking clock alarm is the best way. Maybe one day Sony will make me one ;)
