Overpriced and full of worthless features

"Fire the shutter, record video, control zoom and more using this wired remote commander and your Alpha DSLR camera." is what Sony's description of the item is. FIrst off Sony, alpha DSLRs do not have power zoom lenses. Secondly, this claim of "and more" is garbage. This remote doesn't even do what you claim, let alone "more". Sony needlessly changed the hotshoe and remote interface to more proprietary ones simply to force us to purchase (or re-purchase for us previous alpha owners) accesories only from them. Too bad there isn't another option, at least not yet.

Questions about this item:

MIKE S  Im interested in finding a radio remote, NOT infared, that would work on the Sony a7r. Does vello or any other company make accessories directly for the Sony multi interface shoe? Related; is there a Sony multi interface adapter that will accept a radio remote to trigger the shutter?
CHARLES D  I have the Sony RX10, which is an excellent fixed-lens camera. Upon advice from Adorama, I purchased the Sony RM-VPR1remote shutter release to use with my camera on a tripod. It connects to the camera through a wire, which works great for my purposes in still photography. It sounds like you prefer a radio remote, and I'm sorry I don't know the answer to your question. Good luck in finding a solution.
Richard G  Does the Sony RM-VPR1 remote control work with the a7R? Is there a wireless remote for the a7R?
jim n  Yes, it works great on the A7r. I don't know if there are others made for it. The new RRS L bracket was designed to work with this release on the A7r.
Leonard C  Does this remote control works with Sony HDR CX220?
Andrew R  Yes, Sony indicates that the CX220 is compatible.
