Got this to improve sound quality over having a shotgun mic on a DSLR and boy did it. Great transmission range and quality. Wound up putting the receiver into an Eiderol R-09HR and synching the sound in post for even better quality. The abilty of the Sony transmitter to accept a line input was a fantastic feature we used when tapping into a monitor out on an in-house sound system. There were multiple speakers and it would have been impossible to mic them all with lavs. Love the heavy metal construction of the body of the transmitter and receiever. Only weak point as far as I can see is that the microphone cable doesn't seem as robust as the metal constuction of the rest of the unit. But it hasn't failed yet!

After ordering Sony's lower priced WCS-999 (should not even be produced in my opinion)series (made of cheap plastic and giving full-on static bg noise 24/7) I didn't know what to expect from them with this system. I was now sceptical about all SONY products in this field. Buuttt, I took the chance that the difference in cost might also reflect a difference in value. IT DID! This system turned out to be everything I had hoped it would be. With a few little extras I didn't expect or read about in the description, like the attenuation control in the menus of each TXr. Clean, solid, durable metal cases. Sony... I'm almost back to trusting you! Just give us the ability to replace the Bodypack TX antenna by making it "Screw-on" instead of fixed. You know it's gonna break, we know it's gonna break, and it needs to be redesigned for that day when we're on location and we need to throw the spare on immediatly!! We can't all just sit around waiting for the "send-it-in & Get-it-back (whenever)" routine. That is always a frustrating, money losing, path that we shouldn't have to go down. Other than my tyraid about the antenna I can only say: Thanks SONY, you got it 98% right on this little GEM!
