Sony Features

  • Sound Story: Sony Balanced Armature drivers are tuned for higher or lower frequency response and combined to emphasize certain sound characteristics
  • Balanced Armature Driver: Experience a highly sublime audio experience with 4 newly developed micro-size driver units (full-range + tweeter + woofer + super woofer). No matter the genre, a dynamic performance, transparent staging and vivid clarity are par for the course
  • Made for iPod/iPhone/iPad: Full integration for iPod, iPhone and iPad.1 The in-line remote gives you volume and track controls (Play, Stop, Next/Prior) for iPod, iPhone or iPad and the built-in microphone makes it easy to take calls through it all

Great for portable devices

This is my first pair of In-Ear headsets; before I had refused to get a set. I've own a pair of Sony's XB-500 and XB-300 cans which sounded great, but both had a terrible bleed noticeable by someone from 5 feet away. They were also too cumbersome to travel with as they didn't fold to compact. I had to get a set that would travel easier with me and still sounded great. After burn-in period, they sound really good on my iPhones (4S and 5). On my VAIO laptop: not so good. Impedence may be an issue as it seems they are made for portable media. Other than that little stumble the bass is deep and controlled. The mids are perfect. The highs do get that little bright but can be controlled by the standard EQ settings on the portable device.

Worked great for almost a year

By

Bought these in April 2012 and the microphone and volume controls died on my March 2013. Not too bad considering I sweat a lot and have been using them constantly during that time. For this price, I'll just buy another and hope they last just as long.

Lows, Mids and Highs...Like never before

By

One of the best headphones I've owned. I rarely write reviews but was compelled to this time because these were awesome right outta box. I bought them with some research as there is very limited information on the web so far. What convinced me was that Sony designed the XBA series from ground up with Balance Armature. Typically, Sony has made good headphones and therefore I thought a reinvigorated product line had little chance to be disappointing. And disappoint they did not. The first thing you'll notice is that they feel solid and well built. The finish is of A-grade Sony product. The sound, what really matters to anyone, is simply incredible. I listen to a lot of bass-heavy electronic music and its effect is lost when headphones loosen in the ear but XBA-4ip stays in place and has a warm thumping bass that is rare in in-ear styles. Then there is the distinct mid-range, where so much information resides that i'm hearing new unheard sounds in tracks I've known so well. The highs are also crisp without reaching distortion. The ipod control is responsive. Overall, I love these headphones more than the Dr. Dre Beats or Bose IE2. XBA's is where music meets the ears.
