About Samsung HMX-Q20BN

The Samsung HMX-Q20BN HD Flash Camcorder (Black) is full HD high-technology compact camcorder with very intuitive functionality. Samsung's CMOS sensors are getting yet better and better every year. The QF20's 5 megapixel backside-illuminated CMOS sensor is 1/4.1" large and is designed to increase the amount of light captured during recording. It thus achieves high-quality capture in low-light conditions.

And the Q20 captures in full HD at 1080i and 720p resolutions, whichever of the two works better for you. The footage gets stored on SD memory cards which you can very conveniently load into your computer once you're ready to see your footage on a big screen.

Additionally, as you're shooting, feel free to switch to stills mode and shoot very crisp 5.3 megapixel still photos that save in JPEG format which will load into your computer just as conveniently as the video you shoot.

The Q20 is equipped with a Schneider-Kreuznach Varioplan-HD lens capable of 20x optical zoom, which magnifies the entire scene before you while preserving much of its color, brightness and overall quality. Additionally, the lens functions with a fast aperture of f/1.8 which only enhances the excellent low-light performance of the sensor.

As for some of the intuitive functions - the Q20 features Samsung's innovative Switch Grip technology, which feels out whether you're using your left or right hand and adjusts the LCD display accordingly so you can better control recording settings. And the LCD display itself features Samsung's Smart-Touch technology, which allows icons on the 2.7" touch-screen display to be dragged and dropped.

One reason why the Samsung HMX-Q20BN is popular is because of its Lightweight

Won it in a drawing and enjoyed it ever since

By

from Austin, TX

Before I won it, I just used my phone, but the video quality far exceeds that of my phone. Its lightweight, comfortable fit in my hand, and easily usable in both right hands. I couldn't be happier with my first camcorder, and I will definitely go with them years down the line when/if I ever need to replace it.

Q20 Camcorder

By

from California, USA

This camera is very intuitive and easy to operate. You can take it off the box, charge it and start using without necessarily having to read the user manual. The image is very clear even at max zoom. I took it to the beach for the ultimate test and even though it was hard to see the display screen, I manage to capture true images with vary natural color and great sound.

This product does not support IEEE 1394/Firewire

By

from New York, NY

Excellent product, however I bought it because the specs say Firewire is supported. IT IS NOT! If you want to capture live-video directly onto your computer, this won't do.

Excellent camcorder

By

from New York, NY

What pleased us most was the footage in 1080p, the quality of the zoom (both optical and digital) and stability in the images, considering she is a handcam. A big difference is the filming continues, or if you stop shooting and if you want then you can continue shooting in the previous paragraph keeping only one file. Function Switch Grip is fantastic because the camera automatically recognizes and makes the correction of the image leaving it in the correct position regardless of the hand hold. It features an LCD display 2.7 "touch that makes it much easier to use because it is much more intuitive navigation through menus, eliminating those extra buttons that only hinder that alias simply open it to turn on the camera and close it to shut down. Finally, the battery lasted around 1 hour and 30 minutes and you can recharge it in any USB port, which is very handy!

Questions about this item:

bruce r  I have 3 questions. when i googled this product you guys have it listed for 199.00. for the basic features it seems a good deal however, some of there earlier models were panned because the zoom was always blurry. I have some common questions that samsung seems not to want to lis the answers to. 1) what is the effective pixel resolution 2)what type of audio is built into it condenser mic/ and or mic input? 3) is the long range zoom blurry like the earlier models?? 4) how long does the battery last
Andrew R  1 Recording Resolution 720x480/60P; Resolution - Full HD i (1920x1080/60i) - Vertical HD(1920x1080/30p) - HD p (1280x720/60p) SD D1 (720x480/60P) 2. Samsung provides no specifics other than recording format (AAC) 3. I'm not sure I understand your question here. Are you referring to the digital zoom? Digital zoom by its very nature results in less than sharp imaging. The 20X optical zoom shouldn't have the same issue. 4. Samsung does not include estimated battery life in the specs for this unit.
