About Steiner 7x30 Porro Prism

The most important innovation in the Steiner Commander XP 7x30 Marine Binocular are the XP Optics; a new high definition, broad band optical formula that features record setting light transmission for times in the dark and clear, sharp, high contrast and comfortable images in daylight. In addition to the XP Optics, is a new high-tech optical coating on both the objective and eyepieces called "NANO Protection".

This new coating repels water and moisture off the lenses leaving them clear of water or moisture. Like windshield wipers for your binocular, you won't ever have to wipe them clean of moisture. The secret lies in a unique permanent molecular bonding substance that makes the lenses so smooth, that absolutely nothing adheres to them.

It is the perfect companion for people who make stringent demands on their marine binocular but, at the same time, are unwilling to do without the benefits of compact dimensions.

Good value, recommended.

I use this at sea for observing ships, birds and whales. It's also good for casual astronomy. It is very bright for a 30mm binocular, has good contrast. The eyecups are great, makes it very comfortable to use. It is lightweight and easy to keep steady at sea, better than a 7x50 most of the time. The soft case is good quality. The floating strap is bulky but potentially useful. The other neck strap is ok but it would be more comfortable with a neoprene section around the neck. This is a great binocular, well made and a pleasure to use.
