About Smith-Victor Dollypod V

Heavy-duty rolling tripod for video studio use. The Dollypod V features the solid Pro-5 Head atop rigid chrome steel legs. The Pro-5 is a 2-way fluid panhead with large quick release plate, bubble level, dual handles, separate pan and tilt lock knobs and all die-cast metal construction. The quick release plate can slide within the head, allowing you to find the optimal balance point for your camera before locking it down.

The base is engineered with a low center of gravity for better stability. Legs are constructed of chrome-steel tubing, and feature individually locking 3-inch rubber wheels. Center post telescopes 27 in. and locks by twisting the collar lock. Folds easily for storage and transport.

Not good enough to trust!

I bought the tripod to use for video with my D800.The legs are metal, aluminum I think, and heavy. The head is big and heavy and I expected it to be steady and smooth moving it around taking a video. However, the part that attaches the head to the tripod is plastic and obviously very fragile. When I opened the package, the head and the tripod were inside a plastic bag and wondered why they do not have each of them in separate wrapping. From what I saw, I think the head was already attached to the tripod and the plastic connector was broken in half. No way to reconnect and I do not think the plastic connector could be removed without going back to the manufacturer. Adorama was very nice to offer to exchange it or my money back and they gave me free shipping to send it back. I am getting my money back and will try to get a dolly to put one of my Gitzo tripods on it when I need to shoot video. I cannot trust an expensive camera and lens on a tripod that the head can snap any time because of a plastic connector.
