Useful kit for basic fill lighting

from Tampa Bay, Florida  -  Pro Photographer

Like other Smith-Victor lighting kits, this kit offers a good value. You get two "scoop" style reflective soft lights rated at 600W each plus a nice little versatile 150W camera-top or stand-mount direct light. You get three stands, a carrying case and a few accessories. The soft lights are good for general fill or, if in a bind, as single interview lights. Their reflective nature creates a softer style spread that is still fairly controllable. No barn doors or accessories to allow you to clip on gels or anything but innovative shooters will be able to work around that. The gem is the little camera-top light. It's made with a little camera-mount bracket but it also comes with an adapter to allow it to be mounted on a light stand. This is how I use it the most. It's pretty powerful for a small light, has barn doors to direct the light and even a fold-down filter to alter color temperature. This is a great little accent light or special effects light. I always have it with me. The case is pretty decent and the stands do the job. This is no ARRI Softbank Kit or even a Lowell kit but, for the money, is a great value. Just use it with care and handle it appropriately and it will last you years.
