About Tiffen 52 ND Filter

Often, you want to balance light intensity between two areas within a scene. This is important outdoors to allow more sky detail while properly exposing the foreground.

Exposing for the foreground will produce a washed-out, over-exposed sky, exposing for the sky will leave the foreground dark, underexposed. By using the color graduate ND, the ability to balance both areas at once is provided.

Tiffen Digital HT® Filters
Made from the purest optical quality glass and Tiffen's award-winning ColorCore technology, Tiffen Digital HT - High Transmission - filters offer a new breakthrough in multi-coating technology.

Imagine, a double-sided coated filter with the strength of titanium, unmatched scratch-resistant durability and worry-free cleaning.

Other coated filters on the market today cautiously suggest delicate, if any, cleaning procedures, in fear of destroying the coating (and thereby the filter).

Not with the Digital HT filters - the secret is in the titanium coating that makes it extremely durable and protects against damage and mark up.

And that's not all these High Transmission filters feature a low profile titanium finish ring and anti-reflective black lock ring, with a distinctive titanium finish that sets these filters apart from the rest.

Digital HT filters are made in the USA and come with a 10-year warranty, your guarantee of quality assurance.

Digital HT filters are available as the following filters: Digital Ultra Clear, Haze 86 (with 86% UV absorption), Circular Polarizer, 812® Warming Filter, ND .06, ND 1.2, Soft/FX® 3, Star 4 Point 2, and Color-Grad® ND.0.6 in sizes 52mm-82mm.

Effective, affordable image manipulation

Very nice for in-camera image manipulation. Produces dramatic effects under the appropriate conditions. Important to remember you may not see the full effect until you download. If you tweak focus manually, be sure you don't move the filter as well. (A warning to all big-handed photogs!) A nice asset to my K10D kit.

I like this filter a lot. It is a little bit expensive, but it does worth.

Flawed Glass

By

from Fargo, ND  -  Hobbyist/Enthusiast

The filter came with a sizeable embedded chunk of black gunk (looks like a large grain of black sand) deep in the glass of the filter and it is un-removable. Apparently, Tiffen needs to work on quality control[...]so I'll buy Hoya, with whom I've had nothing but excellent results.

Works great.

This thing works very well. I enjoy shooting the horizon and this has come in handy a lot. I have used it a lot at sunset to campture the moon rising. It seems a little pricey for what it is, but it works great.

Questions & Answers Powered by TurnTo®

Questions about this item:

Leonid L  What does '4x' mean in the name of the filter? 0.6 is supposed to be 2 stops, not 4, correct?
ZIYAD A  4X=2 stops because each stop doubles or halves the amount of light through the lens.
Shopper  Is this a multi coated filter?
RANDY B  Tiffen says this is a multi-coated filter.
