works

Using it with my HP Envy 17". Currently I have monitor, wireless keyboard and mouse connected to it. Surprised that there are so many issues reported. Pretty easy setup, plug in and connect. Seems like it has a lot of potential for connectivity. However, I did not expect it to be passive docking station, I did expect it to supply power to the laptop when docked.

Unreliable.

Got it working; then hp rolled out a software update and the docking station stopped working, taking out all functionality for the external keyboard, trackball, monitors, speakers and backup drive---everything connected to the docking station. And this is with the latest USB3 drivers installed. Even at its best, it failed to provide power to the computer, so a separate power supply had to be used, in addition to the docking station and its power supply. Unlike the docking stations I previously used, this one makes everything harder, not easier.

Works ok with current gen. HP Envy, but not DV7

Doesn't work with slightly older HP DV7 Win10 machine. Screens keep fighting between Laptop screen and Targus connected screen.

It seemed like a good buy until...

I purchased this to use with my new HP Envy laptop because the new hardware does not include a video card. While waiting for the laptop, I used the dock with my old one. Everything installed just fine. Not even a week later, the video adapter just stopped working. I tested it out with another to make sure I didn't do anything crazy... It worked with the test adapter I borrowed. HP is offering to swap out the adapter with a replacement, but I don't want something that will probably give out again. I'm sending mine back and will order a different brand from somewhere else since HP's website is limited on their selection.

Difficult to setup - battery/power issues!

Major hassle to get all drivers installed an working! This is being used with new HP split X2. Still having power/battery issues! While plugging in USB 3 from dock station, the battery power does not switch over to use USB 3 dock power supply, this draining all power fr tablet. Can not figure out how to resolve this issue! Shows battery. #1 an battery #2... But does not switch over to use battery #2 which I assume is the USB 3 docking station! Lots of hrs spent trying to setup an get working properly'

Doesn't Work

After the first day, it worked fine. But, each day a connection seems to fail. Now everything is just hooked up to my laptop and I need to find another solution.

Lasted 4 weeks, but not that great any way

The Targus so-called docking station (Model ACP70USZ) is not a docking station, but an interface hub connected by USB 3.0 to your laptop. Plug the USB 3.0 cable into your laptop, and you are hooked up to all your peripherals. Thinner laptops evidently don't have room to dock internally (makes sense). I can live with the separate power supplies, the short USB cable, and all that. But after four weeks, the Targus died. Since it doesn't have any status lights, I used the optical mouse to trouble-shoot. Each time I plugged the Targus power cord in, the mouse would light up for about a second and go out. Even disconnecting all peripherals, still the same. Now to find out how to return the Targus to HP, and hope for a better one.

Very much satisfied

Never used a docking station before, This works great and makes it very easy to disengage and become mobile with the laptop.

doesn't work

After I unboxed 2 of these I followed the instructions exactly. The USB ports worked but the LAN and the monitors would not connect so the pc could see them. I went online to look - and sure enough these are problem devices. I will give Targus 1 chance to get it to work then I'll take them back. I expected more out of a product from Targus - I was very disappointed.

Cheap and oversold junk

1. Doesn't come with a power cable so it's really NOT the advertised price. You'll have to buy another power cable to achieve the convenience of a docking station. That makes this unit the absolute MOST EXPENSIVE "docking station" ever. And it's really NOT a docking station either. 2. Doesn't work out of the box with Windows 8. Be prepared to spend a long time "making it work", downloading drivers and firmware updates, rebooting, flipping cables, etc. 3. The USB cable is 18 inches long which means the flimsy unit will be flopping all over your desk with all your cables tangling up, running every which way. You CANNOT tuck it and the cables nicely behind your laptop or under your desk. 4. Although not really Targus' fault, but HP laptops have their USB on the FRONT LEFT of the laptop, not BEHIND the laptop so good luck being left handed with item #3. 5. Flimsy and will undoubtedly break within a few weeks. But since I'm returning it citing the above 4 items, this is rather moot. Absolute junk, and oversold cheap garbage.

Docking station is junk

The Targus docking station did not work from the beginning. After hours online and on phone with Targus we finally got it to work. That lasted, perhaps, 3 weeks. Stopped working again. Again online and on phone. They again had me run the debug program. Finally, their "engineers" decided that I should get a replacement. However, it will take several weeks before replacement arrives and this is a disaster for my business..

Product is good but.....

I wished I would have read the description a little better and realized that power for the PC was not included. I found out after receiving this product that in order to get power included, I would need to buy the more expensive version of this for $249.00. So I guess I will live with having to connect/disconnect 2 cables instead of one. All in all though I am very satisfied with the product. I have this connected to my 27inch external monitor and it works great.

OK in the right environment, but beware

As others have noted, the device is very light and moves around a lot and it needs a separate power supply as does the laptop. The DisplayLink software didn't install properly but you can still use the normal Windows Control Panel to switch displays. The cable from the dock to the laptop is only 2' and is very stiff. You may be tempted to get a USB 3.0 extension cable so you can put the dock out of sight somewhere or because it's in the way, DON'T do it! The dock and cable are under-engineered. A longer cable will cause a voltage drop so great that the dock will not function at all. It may be possible with a separate, "monster" quality cable with an A and B connector to extend the range, but those are hard to find and haven't been tested (Targus said simply that it's only designed to work with the 2' cable).

Lots Of Problems

I received my laptop and was excited to get started using it with this 'docking station'. I have had many issues with it connecting to an office VPN. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Software just disappears and I have to reboot to try to get it to work. Monitor connection doesn't always work. It took a long time to get it to transfer to my monitor as it kept saying it didn't exist after already working for over a week. So many problems for such a small device.

Works as advertised, but cheap

Certainly not as great as the traditional docking station, but does work as advertised. Product is very light so it moves around too much and does not provide an anchor for the "docked" laptop. I had to velco it to the desk. Product does not provide power to the "docked" laptop so in addition to having to plug in the USB, I have to also plug in the power cord to the laptop. More wires = less desirable.

A plug-in bar, not really a dock

Works OK, but unlike bottom side press fit docks I've used in the past, this dock bar is completely separate and plugs into the USB3 port via a cable and special software. So you need to plug in power and this cable on the side of the laptop when docking. The side plugs are inconvenient on my desk as they run into other things. With wireless keyboard, mouse, and networking as alternatives, this dock doesn't really save a lot of plugs. And the side plugs into my laptop get in my way. I thought it had a second power supply like my other docks, and improve the value because you get another laptop supply. But the included power supply is just to power the separate docking bar. So now you need two power supplies and cords getting in the way on your desk! And you don't get a second supply for the laptop like with most docks. Not sure about returning it. But the extra graphics and USB ports are nice so I might keep it.

Plug and play USB and Video hub.

Haven't tried the video ports yet, but no USB connection delays. High speed data transfer thanks to the USB 3.0 dock connector. Only knock is it doesn't provide PC power . Check out the Targus APC71 for $50 more.

Very poor quality product

Very poor quality parts including connector quality. Features (if they worked) were ok. However, the Ethernet port and 3 of the USB ports were DOA. Software with it never worked correctly and caused a lot of restarts. I would recommend NOT offering this overpriced product on your website. I have purchased a competing product which is much more solidly built with same features (Toshiba)l.
