About Tamron 150-600mm

An innovative ultra-telephoto zoom lens with a focal length range of 150mm to 600mm for full-frame and APS-C format DSLR cameras.

• This all-new ultra-telephoto zoom lens features VC (Vibration Compensation) image stabilization, speedy, precise USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive)[3], state-of-the-art eBAND (Extended Bandwidth & Angular-Dependency) Coating, which significantly reduces the unwanted light reflections that cause flare and ghosting, and a sophisticated and stylish new external finish.

• Its 4x ultra-telephoto zoom capabilities, with a focal length range from 150mm to 600mm, enhance the creative potential of telephoto photography, a captivatingfeature for all photographers, particularly nature, wildlife, and sports shooters.

4x ultra-telephoto zoom lens with a focal length range of 150mm to 600mm:
• The focal length range of this lens was extended by 50mm on the wide-angle side and 100mm on the telephoto side compared to the existing model A08, making it possible to take even more striking photographs of birds, wildlife, sports, and other distant subjects. Mounted on APS-C DSLR cameras, it has a stunning near1000mm telephoto equivalent focal length range of 233mm to 930mm.

World class image quality:
• Employing 20 elements in 13 groups and boasting an advanced optical design, the lens delivers a superior balance of resolution and contrast for sharp, clear images. The front group contains three LD (Low Dispersion) glass elements ( two in the first group, one in the third) for enhanced optical correction effectiveness, enabling the lens to thoroughly compensate for on-axis aberrations at the telephoto end.

• The lens also adopts eBAND Coating, developed from state-of-the-art coating technologies, and conventional BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) Coating to greatly suppress ghosting and flare even when shooting under adverse lighting conditions.

Achieves a 600mm focal length in a compact easy-to-handle package;
• Ingenious optical design features minimize the movement of lens groups within the lens when zooming. This reduces the amount of barrel extension needed to cover the complete focusing range, making the entire lens more compact.

Beautiful background blur effects:
• Adopting a 9 blade circular diaphragm enables users to create beautiful background blur effects (Bokeh), which provide even greater potential for creative expression. This circular diaphragm retains a nearly circular shape even at two stops down from its maximum aperture.

VC (Vibration Compensation) mechanism creates greater opportunities for sharper handheld photography:
• Tamron's proprietary VC (Vibration Compensation) image stabilization system usesa three-coil system, delivering significantly sharper images and creating greater opportunities for handheld ultra-telephoto photography.

Comfortable autofocus:
• Tamron's new SP 150-600mm F/5-6.3 Di VC USD features a USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive) ultrasonic motor drive for swift and accurate AF response, it delivers high torque, very fast response times, and very low noise. The full-time manual focus mechanism allows users to make fine manual focus adjustments at any time even when AF is engaged.

New elegant, high-class external finish:
• Tamron has upgraded the cosmetic design and finish of this lens to create a moresophisticated, high-end look in keeping with the demands of discerning full-frame DSLR users. Employing a sophisticated linear pattern rubber grip on the zoom and focus rings and an attractive and stylish tungsten silver brand ring, this newly designed model accentuates its visceral presence with understated elegance and class.

Easy-to-use tripod mount:
• The tripod mount has been completely redesigned to provide superior stability, durability, ease of use, and portability.

Comes with "SILKYPIX Developer Studio for Tamron, RAW image development processing software for Tamron's SP lenses:
•The SILKYPIX Developer Studio software can develop high-quality images from RAW data, incorporating adjustments that can express the personal style and taste ofthe photographer. These include white balance, color, sharpness, and the tonal curves recorded by digital cameras.

• The SILKYPIX Developer Studio for Tamron provides a range of functions, in addition to the basic adjustment capabilities, such as correcting aberrations (chromatic aberrations of magnification, distortion, peripheral light fall-off), based on the optical data. Used in tandem with Tamron's SP series lenses - renowned for their high-depiction capability - this advanced technology efficiently produces images that meet photographers' most exacting demands.

Excellent Tamron Super Telephoto Zoom

I am using this lens for wildlife photography. The zoom range is really nice to have, I have been used to using prime lenses. The weight is very manageable and easy to carry around for hours. And the price, unbelievable for this type of quality. I can say that I have not found any "cons" for this lens. Image quality is excellent.

I returned it to Adorama.

I have a Canon 100-400L that achieves quite good image quality; so my only interest in the Tamron was it's 600MM capability achieving a range/distance beyond the capability of the 100-400L. As such, I only tested it at 600mm F8 & F11. I found the AF at 600MM to be "hit & miss"-- mostly miss. It would not focus properly, on my EOS 7D unless Focus Search was enabled ( not needed with the 100-400L), and even then cycled to acquire AF. I have a Canon 100-400L that achieves quite good image quality; so my only interest in the Tamron was it's 600MM capability achieving a range/distance beyond the capability of the 100-400L. If you're "shooting" Wildlife--especially birds, they'll likely have flown before this lens could acquire focus. I rated it 3 Stars because I only tested at 600mm: & because the AF issue is prevalent on forums, and I would hope that Tamron will come-up with a fix. For someone shopping for a "first-time" "long" Tele-Zoom I think it has potential; but I wouldn't swap my 100-400 for it at "this" stage of it's "development".

Must Have Investment

I'm using this lens with a Nikon D750 and the majority of my photographs are wildlife and nature. This lens does not disappoint! I've never spent this amount of money on a lens, I'm very glad I did this time. I was totally blown away with it's quiet mechanisms when focusing and the results are fabulous. I've found taking a photo and then cropping it down to say a 1" x 1" picture provides its true focusing performance. Again, this lens does not disappoint!

Bang for the Buck

You simply can't this focal length for this price anywhere else. Overall, very good lens. It's a little soft at 600mm and sometime the autofocus can be slow, but but getting 600mm for just over $1k....I can make due.

Totally Awsome!

By

I use this for wildlife and mostly bird pictures. It took me a few adjustments to my set up but once I got it the pictures are stunning. I am using it on my Cannon T5I APS-C frame camera which makes it a 1000 mm zoom with the 1.6 crop factor. You can't beat it for the price. Totally satisfied.

150x600 lens

By

from Sandy, UT  -  Photo Enthusiast

I use this lens for pictures of small birds and moon shots so far. If the birds are moving it is heavy and hard to find even at 150mm in hand. Need a good tri-pod. At 600mm you get close shots. AF works fine with my Nikon 5100. Also with manual focus it is easy for my moon shots.

THis is a sharp lens that will do the job well. It is a bit bulky and heavy.

A 150x600mm Great Price point

By

from Fla  -  Casual Photographer

I am a Nature Photographer that was using a Nikon 18 x 300 mm lens. I needed a little more reach. When I heard that a lens was coming on the market and was priced consumer friendly I could not wait to purchase one. I ordered it around Dec of 2013 and received it around June of 2014. When I first took this lens out with me I was amazed that it worked so well. But then after using it for a number of times it has a habit of freezing up, in order to unfreeze it I have shut down the camera. Another problem I seem to have is it doesn't preform well in low light shooting. All in all I have taken some nice clear pictures with this and given its price point you really cannot beat it.

Works well for a big low cost zoom

By

from Dracut, Ma  -  Photo Enthusiast

I got it to do shots of grandchildren in high school sports and for some wildlife shots. I would recommend you get the haze filter, a case and the Cotton Carrier which your back and neck will thank you for. First field trip was at something called Gig boat racing in Gloucester. I was still shooting when the 400 mm primes had long given up. Not as fast or as sharp as a prime of course but a quick trip through DXO software fixed all the minor problems.

Great for the money

Fine lens for the money. The vibration control allows hand held use easily. Auto focus was fairly quick despite reports of problems. Would have been nice if it came with a case or a pouch. All in all a great lens,

Huge Lens

By

from Maine  -  Semi-pro Photographer

So far, so good...The auto-focus issues others have seen have not appeared yet. Would be nice if they included some sort of bag/case with it. Construction is mostly plastic, but for this price it is a real bargain for this size lens. A winner!
