Tamron 60TH ANNIVERSARY MODEL 18-270MM Di II VC PZD THE WORLD'S LIGHTEST, SMALLEST 15X ZOOM, WITH TAMRON'S FIRST PZD (PIEZO DRIVE) AF SYSTEM

A light, compact, ultra-high-power 15x zoom lens with PZD (Piezo Drive) the first Piezoelectric internal autofocus motor by Tamron exclusively for digital SLR cameras with APS-C sized sensors.

The acclaimed Tamron 18-270mm VC ultra zoom for APS-C format DSLRs has reached an astonishing new level of compactness, performance, and speed with the addition of PZD (Piezo Drive), an innovative ultrasonic autofocus motor based on an advanced piezoelectric design. The result is a lens that's considerably lighter, and noticeably shorter and slimmer (filter diameter: 62mm) than any previous lens in its class, and provides faster, quieter auto-focusing.

Signature features that have made this amazingly versatile lens the world standard in its class have been retained. They include a 28-419mm equivalent (15X) zoom range, an improved, lightweight, compact Vibration Compensation (VC) system, macro focusing to 0.49m (19.3 inches) throughout, and, of course, superlative imaging performance.

Compact and Easy to Carry 15X All-in-One Zoom with Outstanding Feature Set
The 18-270mm Di II VC PZD boasts the world's highest zoom range at 15x magnification for a lens with its compact size and light weight, with the added value of Tamron's proprietary VC (Vibration Compensation) image stabilization. At 15.9 ounces, measuring 3.8 inches in length (from mount face to the tip of the lens), and 2.9 inches in diameter with a filter diameter of Ø62mm, it's a compact and easy-to-carry lens. A minimum focusing distance of 19.3 inches throughout the zoom range and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:3.8.

Tamron's new PZD (Piezo Drive) autofocus technology delivers silent, high-speed autofocus in a compact lens
Ultrasonic motors are divided into two categories depending on the principle that generates the energy to move the drive: traveling wave motors and standing wave motors. Traveling wave motors include the ring-type ultrasonic motor used in the recently launched SP 70-300mm VC USD as well as other lenses, but this lens employs a newer technology, the PZD (Piezo Drive), which functions on the standing wave principle.

A standing wave ultrasonic motor utilizes high-frequency voltage to extend and turn the Piezoelectric (Piezoceramic) element, thus moving the entire element in a standing wave movement. The metal tip is the contact point of the element to the rotor, and moves in an elliptic motion from the swiveling motion of the moving element, and the friction from this motion turns the rotor. Standing wave ultrasonic motors have the distinct advantage of being smaller than their traveling wave counterparts, and therefore allow a more compact SLR lens size.

VC (Vibration Compensation)
Tamron's VC mechanism employs a three-coil system, whereby three driving coils activate the shake-compensating VC lens group electromagnetically via three steel balls. The VC lens elements are held in place only by contact with the steel balls, achieving smooth movement with little friction. This provides a stable viewfinder image with excellent tracking performance that eliminates the blur from handheld shots for cleaner, crisper shots.

New VC Mechanism (Moving Coil Method)
Tamron's original VC image stabilization mechanism utilized a moving magnet system whereby a heavy magnet was positioned near the moving VC lens element. In the new VC unit, the positions of the magnet and the coil are reversed, and because of this, the VC optical lens element is attached to the coil. The new VC mechanism employs a moving coil mechanism with a lightweight coil, and the lighter coil reduces the load on the drive system. Thus, the lighter, more compact new VC unit contributes to the lens's overall light weight and compact size.

Great Walk-around lens

I got this lens to be an "always on the camera" lens when I am out doing casual photos or hiking or riding around. I like the zoom range in that I don't miss shots for having to change lenses. I have used it on one hike to take macros of flowers, portraits of a friend and a nice waterfall shot (even if the light was from the wrong direction). The focus is sometimes slow, but usually spot on when it gets there, but that is usually in lower light conditions. Overall, works great for what I

All in one lens that can't be used

I was all excited about this all-in-one lense and didn't do all the research and the price was incredible. But, it can not be used on a full frame camera, Canon 5D Mark II. Too good to be true. Most info doesn't specifically state this.

Great Lens for Good Value

By

The 18mm - 270mm range and great optics makes this a great lens to have for all around photos. It's lightweight compared to other lenses I have had. I'm able to photograph flowers to landscapes with this lens.

This is my 2nd lens because the 1st was so good!

By

I bought the my original Tamron 18mm - 270mm lens a few years ago and have taken over 8,000 photos with it so far. My only complaint with the first lens was it was heavy and a little long to carry on the camera all the time. I bought the new lens because it's lighter and more compact than the firs, plus I now have a Canon 7D camera which is also heavy. My wife and I travel the world and I have used the original Tamron 18mm - 270mm lens almost exclusively - it really has a great range. I plan to use the new lens the same as the old one, but now I've got 2 cameras with the same lens so my wife can use one while I use the other. Her other camera was a small point and shoot, so this should be a marked improvement for her. In total, I have 4 Tamron lenses, and I have had excellent luck with all of them. My latest one was just used at a car show this weekend, and the results were great as usual.

Light and versatile.Easy to carry with you all day long without breaking your neck.No creep problem with the lens, with my Canon 18-200mm IS I had to turn on and off the lock switch every time I want to take pictures, very inconvenience and heavy too.

Love this lens

By

I am an average Joe with a habit of taking lots of pictures when I go someplace. Not a professional by any stretch. I use a Nikon D3200 and I wanted a lens that would do it all and this one is that lens!! I recently went on a cruise and bought this lens specifically to take. My pictures came out WAAAYY better than the kit lenses. I definitely have no regrets spending the money for a good lens.

Great Lens!

By

I ordered this lens for my husband for our recent vacation because he didn't want to keep changing lenses. He used it at the Grand Canyon on a Canon 60D and got some good shots. I've used it to do some architectural shooting and it's pretty good at the 18mm end. It's a good lens to have on hand when you only want to take one lens.

You get what you pay for, recomend it

By

Just purchased (07/12/14) this lens for a cruise we are taking out of London. I bought this lens on the recommendation of another photographer, who also had a Canon camera and recommended it with limitations. I love the lens! It's light weight, does excellent photos with the sample shots I took and look forward to taking this one, light weight lens with me on our next cruise. Be aware that it does not work with the Canon Extender convertors. In other words you will not be able to get a 540 mm lens from this. I wasn't expecting this, but someone might. Also when you buy this lens it does come with a lens hood, so no need to purchase one separately.

*Fantastic* lens at a good price

By

This lens is excellent for its range (approx equiv of 30mm to 400mm focal lengh of a 35mm SLR), precision of focus, and *excellent* image stabilization (which makes it possible to hand hold all the way to the highest telescopic power).

Adorama could not get it right.

By

I ordered a Tamron lens for my Canon camera and got one that fit a Nikon. I returned it and specifically said I needed a Canon fit. Number 2 lens came and it was for a Nikon. I was a little upset when the 2nd lens came. I have sent it back and this time I have asked for my money to be returned. I can only hope!
