intended use matters

Intended use for this gorillapod is important. I believe the reviewer above about how it might not hold a heavy video camera. However, when using the tripod for a heavy DSLR/lens combo the gorillapod works just fine. Intended use for this gorillapod is important. I believe the reviewer above about how it might not hold a heavy video camera. However, when using the tripod for a heavy DSLR/lens combo the gorillapod works just fine. It is very stiff, very secure compared to the other gorillapods I have used: I have no qualms about setting this thing up anywhere/anyhow I want with my equipment on it. I use this for wandering around the city as an option for a long-exposure if I need it: it's weightless and you can attach it to any part of your bag/backpack and forget about it until you need it. If I were to go out for some dedicated long exposure shooting I would use something else. I use a manfrotto RC2 ball head for the gorillapod. It works perfectly for what I got it for.

AWFUL!!

Really, really, bad. Do not consider any of these tripods for anything other than the cheapest P&Ss. They are delusional thinking this can hold up a video camera.

To Flimsy

I was very excited when this arrived. But then I put my iPhone on it and tried to film. The legs started slowly falling sideways until my phone was almost on its side. No mater what I do it will not stand up. I think I wasted my money. Now if I can find something sturdier.

Get creative without getting bogged down

By

This is the one that works with my Panasonic G6 and 14-140 zoom lens. The lens is heavy and longish and makes the camera off-balance. It's fine to shhot with, but presents a challenge using small tripods. I tried the SLR Zoom, but I didn't get the stability I needed unless I set it up very carefully. I don't like to second guess if my equipment is going to work, so I tried the Focus. Bingo! Much stiffer, more stable, and the longer legs give me more real estate to wrap around poles, fences, trees, etc. It's kind of fun to figure out ways to use it. Since the height can't be changed, you'll have to get creative to get your shot. At home it's a good tabletop tripod. I've wrapped it around a chair back, banister, and lamp pole. Outdoors I've put it on cars, fences, trees, and flag poles. It's stiff, but pliable enough and is very stable once set up. The question mark is how long joints will stay stiff enough.

Great for macro

By

I bought this because my current tripod has an extension column in the center which prevents me from shooting macro very low to the ground. Rather than tossing my current tripod and purchasing another without the column I opted for this. I'm a hobby photographer with a Nikon D5100. I typically use a 60mm macro lens and the Gorillapod Focus handles it without any issues. For little cash it got me what I needed and it's also a great shorter tripod. Love the ball head too.

So far, so good!

By

I got this to take on trips and camping. I've only used it for a few shots so far, but it works as advertised. The ball head and tripod are strong enough to hold my Camera with a 70-200 lens just fine. It's not small, about the size of a bunch of celery, but I am happy with the trade off between size and capability.

Solid

Held my 5D mkII and 17-40 with no shake. The legs are stiff and stay in the position you put them in. Pricier than the other Joby's, but works very well.

I love it..

By

I have only put my camera on it once, but that is mot why I bought it. I put a small Manfrotto head on it and use it for a speedlight, holder for my reflectors. It works wonderfully, very rigid and grips well. Already paid for itself.

Awesome

I haven't had a chance to give this product a real work out yet, but I played with it to see that it would securely hold my camera in place. I am looking forward to having time to use it more. I don't see any problems with the product whatsover and feel it was a great value for the price.
